Max memory for your cam is 512Mb. Your camera cant "see" more than that. It probably has to do with the way the FAT table is written. No go on anything larger than 512, just get a few 512's and keep swapping.

Are you saying that it didn't do this before you started using the 4 Gb card?
If this is the case this card may not be well suited for the camera or be bad. I would certainly try a different card or take it back to the seller. Get a camera quality card with fast write speed. I might suggest several 2Gb cards rather than one big one. Lexar makes Pro cards as do most of the top name manufacturers.

How do I transfer pictures from the internal memory to the sd card?

I'm not sure that you can do that in the camera. You probably have to transfer internal memory to computer via usb cable. You could then transfer to sd card from computer if needed.

ViviCam 8400 digital camera software & manual disc won't go into my mac os x. How do I solve this problem

You can download the manual and request the Vivitar Experience software from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.vivitar.com/products/1/digital-cameras/17/vivicam-8400

You might want to consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other other photo cataloging program.

Using vivicam 8400 as webcam

You can't. The 8400 was designed as a camera, storing images (and videos) to a memory card. It was not designed to stream videos live to another device.

Cannot download pic.s from camers to pc.

I would remove the memory card and use that to transfer the media to your pc.... I can't tell you why it is not showing up on any of the pc's. The only thing I can think of is possibly the usb cord is bad or that vivicam has special software you need to download. But you can definately get the media onto to your pc by bypassing the usb cord and remove the media from the card and place it in a folder on your pc .. hope this helps... good luck
