Bosch aluminum dough hook has black coating

Just recently my Bosch aluminum dough hook had a black/grey substance start rubbing off of it. I have been washing it in the dishwasher and didn't know if that was causing some problem. Is it still safe to use?

My Bosch is doing the same thing, but it is all the matte-colored grey metal parts. They are leaving grey smudges that are rubbing off on my hands. Also, there are small white bumps or dots appearing on the metal surface. I need to know if this is safe for my family to continue to eat from.

Yes, I am also having the same problem. The black substance is getting in my dough. Can you please make and all stainless steel dough hook.

The dough hook is supposed to be cleaned by hand. The manual states not to wash it in a dishwasher. Maybe, that's the main issue?

Aluminum tends to oxide when its washed under harsh dishwasher detergents. I use Palmolive oxi dish soup (blue bottle) just by trial and error. Put some on a sponge/ (non-mettal) scouring pad, and scrub the attachment, it will take off the majority of the grey gunk thats rubbing off and after a few times of cleaning it, it'll get back to its aluminum luster. Easy remedy to clean your dough hook -- or any other aluminum item.

The problem is where the pin on the beater shaft locks into the hook may be wearing down or the hook itself.when you put the hook on see if you get alot of play in the hook (wiggle it and if it feels really loose its worn).its still safe to use but eventually (and this may be quite sometime) the pin may break off the beater shaft.you would then have to replace the pin and hook.

Why does the dough travel up the dough hook and mess up the machine no matter how small of a batch I'm making? I'm using the Bosch compact mixer.

Really odd, but could the motor be running in revere? I'm sure there would be no way you could set this to happen but it does sound like instead of screwi g the dough down, it is screwing it up.

I can't get the dough hook to come off?

Sounds like there is solidified "gunk" which has locked the dough hook in place. First try applying some rubbing alcohol to the joint and see if it frees things up (you may have to keep things wet for a few minutes).

If the alcohol does not work, use some pent rating oil and let it soak in for an hour or so, applying it as needed during the wait time.

Should do the trick,

Never used new bosch universal plus making bread started rattling sound

I do not know a lot about this machine. I am a DIY fix anything. It sounds like one of the mounting points on either the motor or the gearing gave way. Regardless it is new, send it back & have it fixed or replaced. Sorry, I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but is safest considering your investment.

Drive Shaft stopped kneading dough

To give the mixer strength it has planetary gears. Something may be wrong in the gear section

Hello. I just purchased my Kitchen Aid Professional 550 HD last Sunday from Costco. I've used it four times and tonight we noticed that the two thin rings (one black) just above the beater shaft are out...

What I think you are describing is the snap ring (black) which you cannot move and the washer controlling the up thrust of the mixer. The black snap ring is usually a tight fit into the groove on the shaft and shouldn't move. The washer right above it is required to be there enabling the mixer to used with a spiral dough hook. The spiral dough hooks cause upwards pressure on the gear train that does not exist using a c-type dough hook. I think you mixer is fine............leave it alone, that's the way it was designed.

Help with replacement parts

Your beater to bowl adjustment may have come out of alignment, which can happen over time with normal use of the machine. This simply means that the flat beater may be contacting the bottom of the bowl.

In your mixer's Use and Care Guide, the beater to bowl adjustment is covered and will provide easy instructions to follow about how to adjust your beater back into proper position.

There are burnished aluminum beaters available. That is to say, they do not have the food-safe nylon coating on the outside of them. Burnished aluminum beaters may not be used in the dishwasher, require hand-washing, no soaking, and immediate towel drying. Failure to follow exact washing instruction with burnished aluminum beaters may result in tarnishing of the beaters.

My varimixer R30 hook doesn´t seem to reach out far enuff to mix satisfactorily. Can the hook change shape just like that ? Or is the hook for some other kettle ?

This is a dough hook and would typically only be used to knead dough. Therefore, the extra clearance makes sense for kneading dough. For other mixer jobs, use other attachments.

Black Residue on meat using Kitchenaid meat grinder attachment

This is a common issue with the Kitchenaid food grinder. The black residue is a product of the meat itself.

With Kitchenaid Food Grinder Attachments, it is recommended that the meat be partially frozen before grinding. This is to ensure a quality grind and to make sure the meat holds all its juices while grinding.

If any juices from the meat are leaked into the food grinder, the friction will cause a chemical reaction and turn the juice from the meat into a black substance.
