Phillips DVDR3320V 'disc unknown' error

When I insert a disc, retail or blank, it often comes up with 'disc unknown'.  I have previously been able to burn to the brand/type of blank discs I have (using this machine), but now cannot play them anymore.  I bought the machine new not more than 18 months ago, and have not used it to burn DVDs more than a dozen times.

Trying to record to disc from VHS After recirding 8 copies, it now reads "Unknown disc, Please check disc" This is a Go-Video VR3845 Unit.

Hello,

I answered this question previously and the solution remains the same;

how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.

The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.

When the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem, then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand this.

So, insert a CD into the player and observe if it will play.If it plays, then its obvious that your laser is very weak.

Concerning the incompatibility issue, I hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.

Amongst the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem. So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.

I hope you understand the above....

I wish you good luck.

Phillips dvd player disc draw won"t open help

Usually, there's a pin hole beneath the tray that come out. If there is a pin hole, get a paper clip or safety pin and insert the pin or clip into the pin hole and push. That should pop the disk tray out.

Try running a DVD cleaner through it and see what happens. You can get one at Walmart for under $10. If that doesn't do the trick then take it to someone that can open it up to clean it.
