IPod nano black mp3 won't turn on

My iPod won't turn on. Ressetting it by holding down select and menu book doesn't work. Neither does toggling the hold button or plugging it in. Nothing shows up on the computer or on the screen. This is my last hope of saving my ipod!

First iPod nano (3rd gen) would not turn off after 2 weeks. Returned to store, browbeat them into exchange for new unit (same nano, 3rd gen).

Second iPod nano (3rd gen) now won't turn ON and iTunes won't "recognize" it. It stopped at the gym today after about 1 hour of play. I assumed battery was low, but charging for hours still presents dark screen.

Have tried the "reboot" procedure numerous times, plus one suggeting to put the unit in the freezer for three minutes, etc.

My wife had similar problems with her earlier generation iPod, only Best Buy gave her new ones each time, but Circuit City will only (now) give you a reconditioned one, after you wait for a couple of weeks.

I'm mailing mine to Steve Jobs. You can't make a consumer electronics product this crappy and not do something about it. Never had a Sony walkman or discman die, back in the day. This is ridiculous!

IPOD will not turn on, or when it finally does turn on, after doing the hold switch nonsense, it turns off after 1/2 song. This is the stinkiest product I've ever had, and it was a gift. IT was bought on line, and it is THE LAST APPLE produce I'll ever buy. What a waste of money!

The first thing that every iPod owner needs to know is how to restart your little MP3 player. Apple has a nice little tech note about restarting your iPod, and here's the gist of it:

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Try charging it using an A/C wall adapter. Sometimes the USB does not have enough power for a very dead ipod.

I plugged in my i pod and came back a hour later and the screen was black and was frozen and none of the buttons would work

you will need to reset your ipod this will not delete songs. 1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again).
2 Press and hold Menu and the Center button for at least 6 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears.
If iPod nano won’t turn on or respond
â Make sure the Hold switch isn’t set to HOLD.
â The iPod nano battery might need to be recharged. Connect iPod nano to your
computer or to an Apple USB Power Adapter and let the battery recharge. Look for
the lightning bolt icon on the iPod nano screen to verify that iPod nano is receiving
a charge.
To charge the battery, connect iPod nano to a USB 2.0 port on your computer.
