Slip, you are going to have to get a belt or rope, slide it under the agitator and give it a good yank up. Careful not to bust yourself in the chops when doing this, the agitator will come flying up. There is what I call a bell under the agitator that has a bolt in it. It probably stripped on the trans spline. If that's the case, inexpensive repair. Catriver

How to replace seal of ge top load washer

You have asked a number of questions. How old is the Washer?
Based on your questions, it may be time to replace. No I am not a
GE Rep. Parts can be ordered online. Google Appliance parts. They may be able to help with "how to's". If newer machine, still warranty? If so check with GE. Otherwise, if the tub isn't being over filled and spin out doesn't send water outside the outer tub which could explain the dripping. Verify gasket leak by leaving water in tub and measure height of water very carefully let stand several days and remeasure.
Remove top should be springs on the front. Push in, to release, tip-up top. Tub must be removed. Remove the agitator by removing the top plastic, should reveal top nut holding down the agitator. You will see a number of nuts holding the agitator tower to reveal gasket. There may be rusting and pin holes causing the leak. I would check this before attempting gasket. I had a similar issue, used JB Weld epoxy about 5 year ago, still not leaking. Possibly the agitator tower has a seal leaking at top. If so that is in transmission and should be replaced as well as the bottom gasket. It may be $200 part.
Due to all the trouble, I replaced it to prevent future failure. You may find a lightly used replacement washer for about that price.

How do i remove the agitator

Top of agitator has a removable cap. Try to unscrew, if not pry off. You should find a hold down nut underneath. Remove nut, then pull evenly the agitator.

NEED TO REMOVE AN AGITATOR FROM A WASHING MACHINE

  • 1 First you must determine the brand of washing machine you have.

  • 2 To remove agitator on a whirlpool washer, remove top cap from agitator, Next you will find a translucent cap, remove this with your pliers. Then you will see a 3/8 inch nut, Back this nut out and you can then remove the agitator. Be Careful though, inside the agitator where the bolt has been removed is a white piece of plastic that holds the "dog ears". These dog ears are what lets the agitator move in one direction and locks when the transmission moves back in the other direction.

Maytag and Admiral washers are very similar to remove. General Electric, (GE) is different, To remove a GE agitator simply pull upwards very hard, GE agitators snap on. Be careful not to pop it into your mouth, that really hurts.

  • 3 Remove agitator, repair or replace and reset, GE just push on, you will be able to see the groves to line up the agitator to the hub. For whirlpool place bolt into dog ear guide, and set down on top of transmission post and tighten, be careful that dog ears, do not get out of alignment. That's it.

    Buy F150 parts.

Water is draining very slowly out of the washer and if it takes to long it gives a code of DR

    Hi

It seems that something is stuck and you'll have to remove the agitator to clean it. I f this is an old style washer, then it should have a bolt under the cap that must be removed to remove the agitator, then grab hold of the agitator and lift up. If it's a not too old then the agitator just pulls out, remove cap, if no bolt, just grab hold and lift up hard...picture. You can also clean the drain hose as that might be clogged if the agitator is fine. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

My washer has had streaks of grease coming from under the agitator. It is getting on my clothes and I cannot remove it. I took the agitator off and the inside of it is coated with this grease (black,...

GE style washer Common problems: - greeseOil on the clothes or floor. In most cases a new transmission will be required. You can rebuild the Trans for oil on the floor, but I find it best just to replace the transmission with a rebuilt one = less problems and faster repair. I have a parts breakdown of the old style transmission here. How to access the washer information.
Change transmission in GE washer-Take transmission out for repairs. - Unplug washer. Remove agitator from washer by pulling straight up on it, some agitators have a bolt under the cap, remove cap and look for a bolt first. Remove the agitator bearing from transmission hub. Get top up by pressing on 2 clips located about 6 in in from side between top and cabinet. Putty knife or flat blade screwdriver works well here. Take the filter flow tube off. Lift top. Remove three bolts holding basket to hub, and use a 12 POINT 1/2" socket to remove the bolts. Lift basket out of washer. Remove the two clamps holding the black boot to the tub and to the transmission. There are six bolts holding the transmission in the washer. Remove the bolts and lift transmission out of the machine.
To replace bottom seal - Turn trans. upside down in a bucket, put in vice, etc. Remove the nut holding the drive pulley on. Take drive pulley off. You can now pry the oil seal out of the trans. bottom and replace. If you wish to put the proper amount of oil in the trans. you will need to remove the bottom cover. Unless you have lost a great deal of oil, I would bypass this. I would estimate the oil loss and put in a lesser amount through the opening where you will be putting the new seal. When replacing the pulley, do not turn the nut holding pulley on. Hold nut stationary and turn pulley in the direction that nut will tighten. This will keep you from separating the hub, torque spring, and drive collar in the transmission. If you see evidence of water in the transmission, my recommendation would be to purchase a rebuilt transmission and repair in that manner. You may wish to do this regardless of the condition of the trans. You will receive a one year warranty with the rebuilt trans. I have a parts breakdown here for the transmission if you need it.
Usually you have to only add a little oil to replace what was lost...not much...really!!
The oil used is a Non-detergent, Gear oil approximately 90 weight. The main pulley seal is WH8X281 and foam nut seal is part # WH2X671.
