Question about Televison & Video

I just purchased a 2 port 1394 Card - Nexxtech

When I put it in, my screen/computer freezes - my mouse and key pad won't work - the directions say it will install automatically. The computer recognizes the new hardware and then freezes - help

    I am at an open house now and don't have the card with me - but I will definitely try what you have described when I get home. I will let you know how it turns out and thank you very much.

If it is a Gigabyte motherboard (and some other older types)
Try this:

1. (shut down) remove the card.

2. (restart) install the card FIRST.. in other words, manually install it and specify the card (any 1394 will do, the driver will be updated later)

3. Then sut down, install the card again, and restart. If you get past the MSG this time, then go to system CP/hardware and update the driver if it is not working smoothly now. Otherwise, if it is XP or Vista, and it runs your firewire device OK, don't unfix it! :)

This seems to be a basic hardware conflict; shut down and UNPLUG the system, then MOVE the 1394 card to a different slot on the motherboard, then reattach the AC power cord, reboot the system, and see if the problem has been solved.

Step 1:
For a standard trackball mouse, unplug the mouse, turn it over and then twist the retaining ring counter-clockwise to remove it. Remove the trackball inside the mouse. Clean the trackball with warm water and dry carefully. Clean the rollers inside the mouse with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Replace the trackball, then secure it with the retaining ring. Clean the outside of the mouse with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. For an optical or wireless mouse, clean the bottom of the mouse and the surface it sits on with a damp cloth. Solve Hardware Problems Make sure the mouse is connected properly. The connector will either be USB or PS/2. A PS/2 connector is color-coded green and can only be inserted in one direction. Check for any bent or broken pins or damage, then carefully plug it in, making sure the connection is secure. Reboot the computer. Connect the mouse to another computer, then reboot the PC. If the mouse works after testing it on another computer, the problem is most likely with your PC or operating system. Also, try a different mouse on your computer. If there is no PC freeze, your mouse is probably malfunctioning. Switch to a different USB port. Sometimes mouse freeze will occur if the mouse is connected to a USB hub. Connect the mouse directly to one of the USB ports on your PC. Try different ports until you find one that works. Replace the batteries. If you have a wireless mouse, replace the batteries with fresh ones. Also, try using a different kind of mouse pad. Sometimes surface imperfections can interfere with the operation of a wireless or optical mouse. Install more RAM or memory. Cursor freezing

I just got this mouse a replacement for a mouse that was out of stock and its not working. According to Windows (7) the drivers installed successfully but the mouse is not responding at all. I am having to...


This will sound foolish but remove the mouse and drivers. Then plug it back in using a different USB port. I have had that issue before and for some reason, that fixed it.

The mouse pad area has stopped working and the cursor is frozen on the screen. However we can use the computer by plugging in a mouse to the usb port. Please advise best course of action. Thanks


get a reg. computer mouse plug in your port then go to start then go to programs and files tool bar put the mouse in you will see 2 mouses go to your lap top mouse click on now change settings around then restart laptop.

If you have a manual for the notebook, check to see if you can use the function key and the similarly coloured key on the keyboard which enables/disables the touch pad. Usually you can disable the mouse pointer touch pad with this FUNCTION key + MOUSE key when pressed together. Often these keys have the same colour (usually blue). The purpose is to disable the touch pad when you are using an external USB or wireless mouse, then you press the 2 keys again together to enable the touch pad once you have removed the USB/wireless mouse.

If that doesn't work, borrow a USB mouse and attach it to your notebook to use temporarily while you diagnose the problem.

Dell Optiplex GX620 will not recognize firewire controller card


1394 drivers should be native to XP, you may be able to correct this by running an SFC scan

Take out the IEEE1394 card
Insert your Windows CD (if you do not have it order a backup from dell)
Exit out of 'install screen'
click Start
click Run
type 'sfc /scannow'
press enter
you should see a progress bar, when finished restart the computer

this compared critical windows files on harddrive vs CD, and replaces missing and corrupt files
