Doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in

I know the headphones work for a fact because they work in other things. but when i plug them in the computer it doesn't do anything and the sound just comes out of the speaker. i have to then leave them plugged in and restart the computer for them to work. it gets annoying. any suggestions? thanks.

Re: doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in

I dont know just regular headphones... we've had numerous ones. but they only work if you plug them in and then turn the computer on. not while the computer is on

Cannot get speakers to work. ear piece works but not front or rear speakers.

External speakers usually require a power source. This may be provided by USB, power adapter or sometimes batteries.

They need to be plugged in AND switched on. And the audio plug needs to be in the audio socket - easily confused with a microphone socket

If you have checked that and they still do not work, you may have damaged wiring.

One last thing. Some digital speakers require a special digital socket - although the plug is the same. Check that your speakers are analog for use with a standard audio output!

Emachine doesn't recognize the ethernet cord when plugged in

Sounds like the integrated ethernet port has gone bad. You can install a new ethernet card in one of the PCI expantion slots. Then plug the ethernet into the new card, this should take care of the problem. You can not repair a bad integrated ethernet port.

Headphone jack not functioning properly

This is the normal way for this laptop ..leave it always with the headphones on selected in that list ..cause if the main speakers don't work well there is no point in using them ..This way you will run whatever yo will plug in ..speakers or headphones..The only setting difference in headphones and stereo out that for headphones will but the speakers of the laptop when plugged in ..This way it will even help you if the speakers are making weird noises cause they are damaged ..

No sound from headphones. Speakers work. Win7

Please clarify, Where is the Headphones connected? Front or back? if you tried it on the Front port without success, Plug in the speaker jack to the port where you did connect the Headphone and verify it's working or not. You can also try the headphone on the port where the speaker is connected.

the problem wont be in the software and if you are plugging the headphones into the front port on the computer it will still play on bolth sets of speakers this is because the computer doesn't recognize that the plug on front is being used, it isnt a problem because the computer is not designed to do so either so if i where you id just turn the speakers of or unplug them when you use the headphones.

Headphones will not work but speakers will.

Plug the headphones directly into the speaker port on the sound card, check for a mute button on the headphones. try another set of headphones to double check wether the first set is working.

I have a compaq computer and two external speakers which quit working. where do the wires for the speakers atach

Normally the lead which has a plug the same as a headphones plug goes into the green socket on the back or sometimes the front of the PC. The speakers should then already be joined together or have a lead that plugs one into the other.
