Problem with installation and no display

System Confiquration:
CPU Model : dual xeon 5405 2.0 GHz
MB Model : intel s5000xvn
VGA Model : quadro fx1700
Memory Model : kingston kvr667d2d8f5/2g (16GB)
HDD Model : WD 7200rpm 1TB
PSU : Cooler master Real Power Pro 550W
Chassis : Cooler master stacker 810

I have just bought a workstation as spec above. But when i press the start button no video coming out.

The chassis don't have the front panel ssi 24 pin for my xeon workstation motherboard. It have the power led, power switch, reset switch and HDD led. From the pin no. below..

Front Panel SSI Standard 24-pin Connector Pin-out
1 P3V3_STBY_____________________2 P3V3_STBY
3 Key___________________________4 P5V_STBY
5 FP_PWR_LED_N ________________6 FP_ID_LED_BUF_N
7 P3V3__________________________8 FP_LED_STATUS_GREEN_N
9 LED_HDD_ACTIVITY_N__________10 FP_LED_STATUS_A MBER_N
11 FP_PWR_BTN_N____________ __12 NIC1_ACT_LED_N

15 BMC_RST_BTN_N_____________16 SMB_SENSOR_3V3STB_DATA

21 FM_SIO_TEMP_SENSOR________22 NIC2_ACT_LED_N
23 FP_NMI_BTN_N_______________24 NIC2_LINK_LED_N

I have make a connection as 5,7 = power led; 11,13 = power button; 15,17 = reset button.

Cooler master PSU didn't come with auxiliary power signal connector as well. Is it OK to run without auxiliary power signal connector?

Now i able to start it but no display even i try with a low end PCIe card.

  • alvinkt Mar 13, 2008

The problem for this motherboard is they didn't come with latest bios. When you using a latest processor, it wouldn't support. So you have to get a older version processor to update your motherboard bios or get your supplier to help you on this if you don't have the processor.

As for the front panel ssi 24 pin connector, the setting is

    1,5 = Power LED

    7,9 = HDD LED

    11,13 = Power

    15,17 = Reset

You can ignore the auxiliary power signal connector if you are not using redundent PSU.

It is better to use a higher PSU. The 550W is just the minimum requirement. So I have changed it to 800W.

Hope the info able to help you.

Hi alvinkt,

I am using 5450 and it gives me voltage mismatch error and does not boot up, goes straight to BIOS. Is your board revised version with R in the end or pre revision. Could you please help me resolving this error?

I am also having problem on this. so I am using 5420 CPU and S5000XVNSASR board. Just power up, not video. So, the solution is to use an old cpu first to flash the bois first before using the new processor? Really appreciate the help ray@me-web.net

If you are using a penryn Xeon, that is a 52xx or a 54xx series CPU, your motherboard must have an R suffix, eg S5000XVNSATAR, or S5000XVNSASR. Motherboards without the R suffix are incompatible with the new penryn xeons.

Hope this helps,

Regis

The chips used were

IntelliStation Z Pro

Type 6899 (March 1997 to ??)

Type 6865 (October 1998 to April 2000)
Type 6866 (January 2000 to March 2002)
Type 6894 (May 2001 to June 2002)
Type 6221 (November 2002 to February 2005)

Windows 8 If you want to run Windows 8 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
As you have Type 6223 which a Xeon faster than 1GHz it should work with Windows 8 but not all Xeon processors are compatible depending on which one you have. See this Microsoft site after you check your Xeon chip family on the motherboard or through the Windows system command. Search for xeon.

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Cindy Wells
(do not attempt to use a CPU that your motherboard doesn't support. It probably won't boot.)

Bios update

Hi, you can look for software here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Server+Products&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+Workstation+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Workstation+Board+S5000XVN

Please select your operating system.

You can also run this utility:

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

It will find outdatet drivers.
I guess you have to try that first if you have software problems.
Take extremly care when upgrading the bios you have to make 100% sure
its the right bios or you will destroy the mainboard.

If there is no bios upgrade there is no need to do that.

How much more memory cah I put in thei computer?

if you have that INTEL S5000XVN Motherboard in your pc. You need to buy PC2-4300 or PC2-5300ram. Intel say it can handle up to 32gb of ram. As it has 8 slots for ram i would say that could be possible but very very expensive. 1gb a slot would more than enough.
