  1. Locate Fast IR under Onboard Devices.

NOTE: Ensure that the COM port that you select is different from the COM port assigned to the serial connector.
  1. Press <Enter>.

  2. Use the arrow keys to select the infrared COM port setting.

  3. Press <Enter>.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

After you enable the infrared sensor, you can use it to establish a link to an infrared device. To set up and use an infrared device, see the infrared device documentation and the Windows XP Help and Support Center

My Dell Latitude D505 will only charge the battery through the docking station. I have used mulitple chargers and none will charge batt outside of the docking station. Any suggestions??

Hi,

Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Hope this will help...Thank you for using Fixya...

My Dell D505 Latitude will not power up. The 3 green lights flash for less than a second and then it switches off. It was working fine until a few days ago. Any ideas of how to fix this as all my work is...

Sounds like ether a blown power supply. That happens when the laptop battery has alittle juice left.

Try to take out the battery from the bottom and plug the laptop in the wall. If the laptop powers up you battery needs to be replaced. If it doesn't power up, you need to replace the power supply.

Good Luck,

It doesn't do anything. get nothing when i press the start button either with ac adaptor or without battery appears to be fine.

Please elaborate on your issue: If your PC does not turn on or give any lights with or without AC adapter, most likely the internal power supply/connector has gone bad, and with it being a Latitude D505 it probably is out of warranty. Only on eBay might you find an old part or two to replace it.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

D505 not charging battery, was working when plugged in - now won't even come on even when plugged in. I have replaced the battery and also the power supply - help.

1. Try using only the power supply.

2. If it won't turn on, unplug power supply then use just the battery.

3. If these two steps doesn't work since you've already replace the battery and the power supply.
You'll need to replace motherboard.

My dell d505 latitude laptop has the dreaded

Sounds like your battery is dead. They go bad in laptops and need to be replaced in a couple years.

1) Unplug your battery and power laptop on with just AC adaptor. If laptop runs normal then you need to replace battery.

2) If it doesnt turn on at all then your motherboard may have a problem. The power supply is integrated on MB on most/all laptops.

2) if you need a motherboard replacement, try http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/DellPartsFamily.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I Have Dell D505 LAPTOP and it just booted up

remove all drives, RAM, battery, cards and any external connections, and see if the Lock LED indication changes. If it does change, add 1 RAM module, and see if the system POSTs. If it posts, add items back till you ID the one preventing post and replace it. If no change, then replace the motherboard ($150 or so on EBay)

Hardware problem, notebook is not booting

Could well be a RAM slot failure.. Try running on 1 stick of RAM and swapping the Mods around..
