Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver
I came here looking for solution and tried the "press eraser in bottom right corner and turn on" but didn't work for mine BUT if you look at the face plate (the part on the front that says "Garmin",) just under the word "Garmin" you see a small indent in the plastic, useing your finger nail, gently pull upwards and the face plate will come up. Also, be gentle while pulling the face plate being careful not to break it. ( I advise that you use your nail and not anythng that might scratch the plastic if you are intending on returning the unit, cause they may suggest that you tampered with it and that "voids the warrenty") Anyway, look at the USB plug (above the ON button on the side) and you see a tab, press it and the unit will reset.
Seems to me that with all the problems Garmin has had with their units freezing up that I should have found this solution on the garmin site! To think that there are people who will throw there unit away because of this problem OR who will pay 150.00 bucks to get it fixed through Garmin.
My garmin shuts down immediatly when I switch it on. Dont know if there is an internal battery that needs to be replaced or some thing else.

TO: Kiij problem report
Just connect your Garmin C340 to a PC that is powered on with the Garmin's USB cable that came with the unit. Leave it there for 10 -12 hours. That should charge your GPS lithium battery and allow the GPS to power on and work normally.
I recently purchased a Garmin 340 and within 30 minutes of use I encountered a lock up / will not power on problem. I tried using the GPS in my car powered by the cigarrette lighter attachment - no luck. I tried depressing the reset button under the faceplate - no luck. I then tried installing the CD with the USB driver info onto my PC, but I could not because the GPS would not turn on to interface to the PC. Everything I tried did not work. I could not get the unit to power on no matter what I tried - I was frustrated and upset with the GPS. I actually called my supplier to obtain a Return Goods authorization because I thought it was broke. That evening as I boxed the GPS back up to ship it back to the supplier I decided to try one more thing. I just connected it to the PC via the USB cable. In a few minutes the unit actually popped on and then turned off . The screen lightly displayed that it was charging the battery. I left it all night - it was fully charged 12 hours later.
I have learned that my Garmin C340's lithium battery will not hold a charge for very long - maybe 24 hrs. Fully charged my C340's battery loses half of its charge during a 12 hour period if it just sits idle with the power off.
However, using my Garmin C340 in its cradle plugged into my car's ciggarrtee lighter during a day trip we took kept the GPS battery fully charged. So the GPS does run off the cigarrette lighter power and is being recharged while in use.
I have purchase a 110v Garmin C3xx AC voltage power cord that allows me to use the GPS indoors without being connected to car's cradle. It also charges the battery. I charge the GPS battery every night and the C340 works great ...
Hope that helps.
