No help. After I put the new control in i turned the circuit breaker back on. the display eventually to the Loc rEF and thats it. All touch pad buttons are inoperative.

there is a lable on the control that says the glass touch reference point must be reset and references a mini manual but I don't have one. I don't even know it that will help.

I am thinking of putting the old controller in again, but have not figured out this code.

    Thanks for the interest!

  • Mohave_0 Jan 26, 2008

    already tried that. no joy:(

  • Mohave_0 Jan 27, 2008

So that is what they call that little piece of paper. I had scanned it several times but did not see anything about LOC rEF. Nor could I find anything about 'glass touch reference points'.

Reading about the F codes I saw that the codes could be cleared by pressing 8 and 6 at the same time. So I tried that and it cleared the LOC rEF!

  • Mohave_0 Jan 27, 2008

Sadly, the controller was not the problem with the oven. The oven resets during warmup. typically when the temp gets above 200 degrees, then the controller resets completly. i tried the controller because it seemed the most logical. Oh well.

I have just replaced the sensor assy, item # 253.

  • Mohave_0 Jan 27, 2008

Replacing the sensor assy did not help.

    JGS968SEK1SS

DR ...I have worked through the LOC rEF problem. The solution was to press 8&6 at the same time like you would do to clear an F code.

I have replaced the Sensor ASSY and the Controller in an unsuccessful attempt to fix the original problem which is:

The oven resets during warmup. typically when the temp gets above 200 degrees, then the controller resets completly( goes blank for a few minutes and then redisplays with time flashing).

It resets in convection, conventional, broil and self clean. I am begining to suspect a power supply but cant find one called out in the parts diagrams i have found on the net.

    Any help would be appreciated....Mo

I have an idea I would like to try on you:

I am wondering if I might have a power problem to the oven. The oven is connected to the same GFI circuit as the refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher and i think obviously, they all run off the same circuit breaker. neither the GFI nor the CB trip however.

What made me think of this is I noticed the oven controller actually goes through a reset period where it is totally inactive for several minutes and then restarts with the dreaded flashing time. This is without even turning the oven on and happens rarely for sure. I noticed it occurred once two days ago and has not happened since.

I am going to try turning off all the other appliances and see what happens.

    What do you think?

  • andoverguy Feb 28, 2009

I am experiencing the same problem that Mohave_O has seen. As the over is heating up, suddenly the controller resets. The display goes blank, then after a short time it boots up again, all characters on the display are briefly illuminated then it returns to the flashing clock. (This is the same reset sequence that it goes through when the oven is plugged in.)
I replaced the controller and it 'seemed' like the problem was fixed but, 3 months later, it has happened again. So I feel like I wasted my money on the new controller.
So, I've been wondering, what would make the controller reset? And my current thinking is that it may be a power supply problem. If the voltage to the controller dips below some level, it may cause it to reset. Has anyone else seen this? I wonder if Mohave_O has resolved his/her problem and how?

Ok i looked too at all the technical documents that GE has on the website and nowhere does it mention a lock ref code. Now that in general has me thinking something is wrong with the door locking/sensing system. Try posting the complete model # and i can make sure im getting to all the latest info.

Ge gas stove display reads loc ref and no buttons work just replaced controll board

The keypad is "locked", hold down the button to remove this (usually "clear") for 5 seconds. Look closely at the buttons, one of them will have a picture of a padlock near it. That's the button that clears the "lock" condition. It's a safety feature to keep the kids from turning on the oven.

Flashing bake and probe indication on GE JD968S

I found the Mini-manual inside the control panel area of the range. I followed the instructions for resetting the control. Instructions are shown below:

Glass touch models only- Lock Reference Command
When the control panel is accessed, the signals used by glass touch panel may be adversely affected. To compensate for this change in signals, the following procedure must be followed every time the control panel is accessed.
1. Make sure power to the range is turned off.
2. Completely close the range control panel and return range to it's normal installation.
3. Apply power to the range.

Accessing the the control panel area but not replacing the control.
4. Enter Special Functions area by pressing BAKE and BROIL keys at the same time for 3 seconds.
5. Reset the control by pressing the 9 and 0 or the HOUR DOWN and MINUTE DOWN keys for 3 seconds at the same time.
6. Approximately 20 seconds after the time is displayed, press the 1 and 5 or the TEMP UP and MINUTE UP keys. The control should briefly go blank, briefly display all segments, briefly display LOC REF, display all segments for 30 seconds, and then display LOC REF.
7. Acknowledge LOC REF command by pressing the 6 and 8 or the HOUR DOWN and MINUTE UP keys at the same time. the control should then display the time of day.
8. The oven should then be ready for normal operation.
9. Test the functionality of the glass control panel, especially the CLEAR/OFF and/or CANCEL key(s).

Steps 4 through 7 are appropriate if you have not opened the control panel area. I had to open mine to clean up moisture caused by a boil over.
Judging from the number of inquiries on this same issue, this is a common problem. GE is more than happy to schedule a service call for this issue, but not so happy to give the information over the phone. This is a fairly simple procedure for most people to accomplish.
The ERC on my range appears to be a fairly common unit. I hope this information helps.
