I have the same problem. After being switched off at the wall if I try and power up the computer the power led and HDD led both come on but the hard disks fail to spin up and there is no action on the screen. If I leave the PC powered up for 5 minutes and then push the reset button it will usually start. If I leave it turned on at the wall and just use the power button to shut it down. I can usually start it again.

I presume either the CMOS battery is failing but I don't see why it fails this way or there are some capacitors on the motherboard that are getting past there useful life.

PC is ASUS A8V delux motherboard, AMD 64 Athlon, 1G memory, XP Pro. Has worked well for past 2 1/2 years. (The PC is 3 1/2 years old but the motherboard was replaced under warranty when it failed after 11 months)

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    hi Moreira,

possibly you're portuguese, but here it goes:

open the pc and check if the led's cable is connected, wich comes from the front side.

if it is, I'll need more information about any possible changes made as the graphics board, for example.

Did you plug in the ATX 12v 4pin power plug. Page 2-27 of your manual? Recheck all power connectors & data cables.
Still have your manual? If not click here. Great board. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Green led power light comes on then power goes off and comes back on repeatedly. It never posts.

Your motherboard was manufactured in late 2009. The green LED on the MB supplies DC power to the BIOS. This is known as standby. This is a relay is built into the MB maintaining the required 3 volt. When you power up the MB the power supply maintains the
3 volt DC to the BIOS. So the relay is not working. Suggest you contact Asus. All Asus MB's carry a three year warranty. Your board will need to be replaced by Asus. Call Asus at; 1-812-282-2787. (Asus Tech IL EST) M-F 8:00 to 5:00PM) There is a sticker on the LPT printer port. Write down the serial number, you'll need this when you make the call.

Good luck!

Asus A8V-E not start

Looking at this post, I think your Motherboard is bad.
Have you tried a different Video Card?
My other thought is the CPU is overheating due to incorrect seating of the FAN and heat sink.
Try cleaning the CPU off, and put new paste on the CPU, then re-seat the heat sink.
Be careful to make sure the anchors are pushed all the way down by slightly twisting or wiggling the heat sink.
Check for looseness.
Push down on all memory sticks to ensure they are seated all the way in.
They should click on both sides.
If it still gives you a red light, then contact the website of the manufacturer, and get an RMA number for a replacement.

ASUS A8JP Will Not Power On

"When the charger is connected to an AC source, the green LED shines steady and bright."

are you talking about the led on the AC-adaptor? cause if its that led that dims down, its a defective ac-adapter (even tho you still might not believe me). replace it and try again.

how would you know that the battery is fully charged?

please rate my solution after you have tested if it works out for you :)

Can't start bios

Hi dariel6167, Asus does cover their boards for three years. Your board came out in 2006. The error message you received (Over clocking Failed) is a normal error message when there is an issue with the bios. You can try to flash the bios with a newer bios file. (This may fix the bios). Download the bios file 1001 & bios- utilities from this Asus link.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P5V-VM%20DH&SLanguage=en-us
When contacting Asus please write down the number found on a white sticker located on the pink LPT port. You will need to open your case & look at the LPT port to see the white sticker. If flashing the bios fails you can still buy an updated bios chip through Asus online E-store at this link: http://estore.asus.com/shop/
You do not pay Asus for repairs or replacement, only shipping to Asus is on you.

Good luck!
