Question about Leica M6 TTL .58 35mm Rangefinder Camera

Unclear viewfinder Hi, When I look through the viewfinder of a borrowed (not mine) Leica M6 TTL .58 35mm, the picture I see is unclear and I cannot get it into focus. Anything I may not have understood?

Re: Unclear viewfinder

Remove the lens, inside and
up in the top you will see the the lens port, is it dirty.
clean it with a lens cleaner.
some cameras ( I don't exactly know this one) has a focus near the back viewfinder for folks that wear glasses.

Film advance shows double exposures and spacing problems. What is the problem?

The film advance mechanism is broken.

Given the very high value of your camera it's definitely not a DIY repair. Although a professional repair will not be cheap, it will definitely make economic sense compared to the cost of replacing your M6, so send it to your nearest official Leica servicing agent.

Where can I get various problems with my Leica C11 repaired or overhauled? Basically, it need a new rubberized back panel (chemical damage?) and the zoom is sluggish or stuck much of the time. I love this...

Hi David, thanks for the extra info.

In that case, the best place by far for your particular camera is Leica's own service centre in Germany.

The C11 sold in such tiny numbers for such a brief time that even Leica themselves may have trouble replacing the rubberised back panel with an original part, but if anyone does have the ability to locate the part it's them. The other problem is that the original part was clearly an unstable compound, so spares may have degraded as well or may soon start to degrade once fitted to your camera. Leica would normally have revised this part once they were aware, but as there are so few C11's in existence the retooling costs would be uneconomical to remanufacture the part.

Good luck, and I sincerely hope that I'm proved wrong!.

Viewfinder shows a inkstain

Check/clean the mirror first, then the viewfinder and the lense. If the stain doesn't show on pictures, it's probably just in the mirror or the viewfinder and doesn't affect the pictures.

Whats the diff between the 503cw and the 503cxi?

The only real difference between the two is that the 503cxi have a too short, vignetting, mirror. The 503cw have a long, non-vignetting mirror. The vignetting is only noticeable in the viewfinder, and when using lenses 150mm or longer.
Both bodies will accept winder CW, and both have TTL flash metering.

Leica M 135mm 4f

I can't say whether your specific camera / lens combination will work, but bear in mind all teleconverters result in some loss of image sharpness (especially 2X models.) You will also lose about 2 stops of light.

Sigh... There's just no real alternative for big, fast glass :-)
