I am having the same issue.
This is my daughter's laptop. She started to have problem charging a few month ago. However, she managed to get it to work by wriggling the power plug. Since that happen while she was in college, I could not examine it until the Xmas break.
It looks like it is due to faulty socket.
I found a different charger and plug it in and found the same problem. While the gateway charger works fine on other laptops.
I tried to open it up without success, as I could not disassemble the part so I can get access to the power socket area.
Does any one know where to find instruction on how to disassemble this laptop complete?
Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

I am sorry you are having to deal with such a frustrating issue. If you have replaced the power supply and the battery, you have already spent around $200. or more bucks only to have the same problem persist.
Probably the single-most vulnerable part of your laptop is the AC jack where your power supply interfaces with the laptop. Stress and fatigue cause power issues I see in every brand of laptop on a regular basis.
The good news is the part will only cost you between $20-30 bucks. The bad news is that unless you have a low-temp soldering iron and are experienced with soldering components on a circuit board, the repair will cost you around another $100.00. Its a fairly easy and quick repair with the right experience and tools. You will want to get your hands on service manual before disassembling your computer.
There is no additional circuitry on the motherboard you can or would want to bother replacing. Hope this helps FixYa! Please Rate up this solution if you find it helpful.

Need schematic for a Gatewsay MA7 laptop. I need to replace the power/charging circuit
If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as
usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer
Instruction Manuals, list
of Dealers,
for spare parts and service, Driver
downloads
and
Installation Instructions
as required.
This is the best way of ensuring up to
date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!
I hope this helps.
