I have a 1996 Chevy Corsica. The ignition and the steering wheel are locked. I have tried turning the wheel to the left and trying to turn the key at the same time. I have also tried putting the car in neutral. Nothing seems to be working...and it is snowing outside. Does the cold weather have anything to do with it? How do i fix it? What's wrong?
Your key or the lock cylinder may be overly worn, to the extent that the key no longer moves the pins to the correct positions to allow the cylinder to rotate.
Assuming that the lock cylinder hasn't been progressively getting more difficult to turn, you may be able to aggressively rotate the steering wheel against the lock back and forth while attempting to rotate the key to disengage a frozen steering lock.
