Re: red and green off

Hello nroxxhard,

It sounds like your convergence amplifiers are malfunctioning. These can be replaced, but I always like to troubleshoot to figure out why they went bad in the first place. That is why my suggestion to you would be to have the TV checked by a qualified TV technician. There are many sites that tell you how to replace the amplifiers yourself, however it has been my experience, in having to do re-work on sets people have tried to replace parts themselves without proper knowledge. So if you want to do this yourself: (I suggest that you not), locate the two STK circuit modules (black six sided IC module) connected to a Heat Sink, then unscrew the screws holding the modules to the heat sink. Using your schematic diagram locate and note all of the biasing resistors connected to the convergence amplifiers, you will need to replace these. Once that is done, de-solder the convergence amplifiers and the biasing resistors, Replace them with the new components, re-solder them and then check the solder connections to make sure you have not created any shorts, and this end the replacement of the parts in question. That's the process.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Hello jordan ashe,

This is an indication that the green CRT is having a convergence problem. This might be caused by the convergence amplifier or by the CRT. Does the rest of the picture look OK? and in addition can you supply a picture of your TV so as I can see what you are seeing and develop a proper diagnosis?

Thank you,

Did you ever get an answer on what is wrong with your tv

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

I am told my Hitachi 61SDX01B (UltraVision/Ultrascan) has "Green Geometry"

Sounds like a convergence promblem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of a convergence problem.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself.
