Problem with DL380 G4 after reboot

I have two DL 380 G4 servers. A few days back i used a bootable CD to boot them up to Ghost their OS partitions (both have windows 2003 server). After rebooting, both servers had one of the RAID drive failed and the online spare kicked in. What is wrong over here, will a firmware upgrade do?

I dont know how much you know about RAID and this RAID5, but if you have at least 3-4 drives, nothing will go wrong as you have one disk, only with the parity bit, and the rest with data, you even can hotplug an old drive to a new one while the Server is running. Having a spare online is luxury, but not nesseery.

I think that you only have to swop drives, as in take the one out that dosent respond, put in a new one, and just wait. When its up and running, then try and swap with tho "old" one again. If the Server still doesent regognice the disk, its Dead.

It does happen, when the Server stopes, as you have done for running the Ghost program.

As long the Server runs, it can run for years, but dont ever stop it :-)....

PS, I have Ghosted my Servers several times, - nothing happend, so it pusels me that a disk in both Servers kicked out?

When less than a quarter feel the need to vote for the effort some of us at FixYou offer, I think to myself, ”is it worth it”.

They get help, and do not care to thank you; “thank you” do not cost a dime, so why????

I have HP PROLIANT DL 380 (G4). I removed hard disk. Its start and few seconds restart again. its happening continuously. Any solution.

need to provide moreinfo.
is the server (prolaint DL380) constantly rebooting within BIOS mode or has it got to the stage of running windows.
The other item not mentioned here, is, IF the raid controller has failed, you will not see any disks initializing and would cause the system to continually reboot.
If it is an internal raid controller, it is part of the motherboard, you will need to contact HP to have it replaced.

If an pci related array controller .. i.e. separate to the motherboard, this will need to be replaced to see the HDD's.
Either way sounds like a hardware issue. Best to liaise directly with vendor to have the faulty components replaced.

Hp DL 380 G4 no display on screen, all the status lights are green

We had the same problem with a G5 version of the dl380, no video at boot or OS boot. This model fortunately had another video out on the front panel that worked. However, I believe that the G4 does not have that option coupled with using the Rage XL's from ATI for video. Have you tried installing another video card into the expansion slots for video? If you are able to, you may find that when you run your smartstart and load/reload the OS your video will work with the onboard.

Make sure the BIOS is fully updated from the HP website. Most DL3-series servers supported booting from an external USB cd, try F10 or F12 at boot in order to bring up a boot menu.

DELL DL-380 G5 "could not allocate page table memory" GSS 2.5

First of all, Dl380 is an hP product.
Secondly your ghost version seems a bit old as ghost 14 is the latest version. Having said that the problem could be at two ends.
1. At the ghost side where your version doesnot contain NIC drivers for PXE boot and HDD drivers for imaging. To fix this you can try manually adding the drivers to the network boot or floppy boot diskette.
You can get the drivers from HP website or the PSP CD that came with the server.

Alternatively you can upgrade to RDP instead of GHOST, RDP is Symantec's offering sold by HP for imaging it's servers.

2. There's some problem with your NIC settings or card if you are trying to PXE boot.
If you are using a floppy drive/ usb HDD, check from BIOS if it is detected.

I have a HP DL 380 server and its configured as domain controler.... and has a raid5 configration .while we are woking it makes a restart and when its restarted windows was unable to boot asking for NTLDLR...

Are you able to get into the array configuration and make sure the logical drive is still intact? If the logical drive is gone, then your partition may be lost. If you are able to recover the logical drive in your array (which you should be able to if the RAID5 striping was stable) then you should be able to recover your data. You can get into the array configuration during the boot up sequence.
