Question about LaCie (300740) 160 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Won't power up or down, just a blue light showing power.

This makes no sense. Can someone confirm my Lacie EDMini is defective: It won't power up or go through the power down sequence unless I turn the orientation of the device. Sometimes rotating vertical to horizontal and sometimes spinning it. Now I can't get it to power down any way I try. And it's not visible through the network. What do I do? It's been finicky since I got it a few months ago, but it has worked and has all my backup on it.

Could be defective. Try swapping power cord and usb cable with know good ones. You could also plug it into a different (known working) usb port.

Good Luck

Lacie External Drive won't turn on (blue Light doesn't go on)

Inside the LaCie D2 250GB (300770) external harddrive's case, is a 250GB IDE (PATA) harddrive that is 3.5 inches across in width.

A desktop computer sized harddrive. (May be a Western Digital WD25000JB)

The harddrive plugs into a small circuit board, (Bridge board), and the circuit board has a USB port on it.

Using this Western Digital Passport for an example,

Scroll down to the second photo, and left-click on it. The case of the external harddrive is shown open.
Inside is a 2.5 inch laptop sized harddrive.
An aluminum tape strip covers the small circuit board, attached at the back of the harddrive.

The second photo down on this page, shows you the small interface circuit board, that the harddrive plugs into, with the aluminum tape removed.

(Another design has wires coming from the small circuit board, to an interface the harddrive plugs into )

It is this small circuit board that goes bad in a LaCie. QUITE common.

1) Obtain a 3.5 inch IDE external enclosure
2) Remove the 3.5 IDE harddrive from the LaCie's case.
3) Install the harddrive out of the LaCie into the external 3.5 IDE enclosure.

An example of a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

Hello. I have a LACIE EDMINI-V2 that won't start, no disk noises, no light from led in front button, nothing. I have dismantled the box, connected the disk drive to my PC and its ok, measured the 5V and...

I owned one just like this and the power supply failed at about 1 year. It turns out it's a fairly common problem. Since you have the device open, does the controlboard/motherboard look burnt at all?
If it is not damaged, you may be able to buy a replacement power supply here:
If it is damanged, then you may still be under manufacturer warranty, contact Lacie here: 503-844-4503
Please leave feedback for this answer, thanks.

Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Let me know if you need further assistance. I can't connect to Edmini via LAN nor USB. LAN computer doesn't detect then I tried to check edmini from browser then I get this message /www/cgi-bin/public/sharelist: line 246: cannot create temp file...

Just contact great support. there answer for my drive was to upgrade the drive version and to reboot the drive. Maybe the last thing is enough. For me it worked.

If necessary update driver

Follow the procedure below to reset the Network Space to factory defaults:
  1. Move the power switch to the OFF position. Wait for the drive to shut down.
  2. Turn ON the drive.
  3. Within about 3 seconds, flip the switch OFF and On several times.
  4. Immediately turn it ON
If the light flashes quickly, the unit is resetting itself. Attempt to connect to the drive again after about 1 minute using the default username and password (by default, they are both admin.)

Lacie edmini 250 GB will not power up

sounds like a faulty power circuit within the external housing. remove all screws and the drive from its housing. you now hold in your hand an internal hdd. remove all jumpers, if any are present, and install this drive on the same cable as your master hdd. now when u boot up to my computer window, you will see two hdd named C: and D:

No access to the disk, same clicking sound + constant light

It may not be getting enough power. Is there an external power supply you can plug in or another USB connector that can be plugged in to another port?

Lacie hard drive won't turn on

My 1TB Lacie suddenly won't power up (no sound, no blue light). It turned out that I might have worn out the on/off switch over the seldom-use 4 years of usage. I push and flip the switch multiple times, and the Lacie came back to live and mount normally. I will just leave it at the On setting and simply pull the power cord when i want to switch it off.

Obviously, Lacie failed to do QA on the on/off switch because my 4 years usage did not totalled to more than 10 on/off per month.
