Oreck XL air purifier problems

I have two units, one will no longer run on silent mode, and the other the red light will not go off even after repeated cleanings. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Re: Oreck XL air purifier problems

You probably have an open circuit in the high voltage circuit. Most likely cause is a broken or disconnected wire. The high voltage wires are very small diameter stainless steel and are connected to alternating aluminum plates by a crimp connection at the ends of the plated. If you insert an object like a brush or wood tongue depressor/popsickle stick in to scrub the plates during cleaning you run the risk of pulling the wires lose or worst case, breaking them. If you just pulled some loose they can be repaired ( I know because I have done it) but you have to partially disassemble the cleaner cartridge to get to the end of the plate(s) with the disconnected wire(s), open the tab that grips the wire, insert the wire in the tab, re-crimp it, and then re-assemble the cleaning unit. I would rate it as moderately difficult. Be careful in bending all the tabs as they are aluminum and will break if bent too much or too many times. Good luck.

Oreck Xl hums and the wheel goes around fast but it is not the normal sound.... I know it isn't cleaning properly. It will stop after awhile too.

You can hold the red button in and it will go off after a minute or less. Then it resets to green.

Oreck XL air purifier (Tower Model)

Is this purifier wet at all, or been in any heavy areas of moisture. This purifier is very undependable with moisture. It may just have to dry out. Let me know if this solves your problem or we can explore further options.

I have an Oreck XL that is very noisey, even on the silent run position. How can I gegt it fixed?

The problem may be build-up on the blower wheel. When the Truman cell cover is removed, two screws are visible which secure the cover for the blower. remove them and the cover hinges. Keep opening and it will unhook. Use a stiff brush to remove soil from the blower wheel. The unit can be turned upside down over a trash can or better still, outdoors to remove the excess.

Machine is very noisy especially on silent mode.

Check the fan bearing. Lubricate with spray grease on the spindle but be prepared to replace if no better.

My oreck air purifier xl won't turn on

With the Air 8 Models there is a number of issues from the motor to the power supply to the circuit boards. With these old units it is hard to find parts for them. as oreck no longer manufactures them. but if the parts were availible i would estimate around 100 to fix your power issue

The red light will not go off after I have cleaned the unit.

Hold the button down for several seconds, it will start blinking, then it will go off. I had this problem too. Hope I helped you.

Red Light

slow blinking light means the unit is in DRY MODE.. flast blinking light means some sort of arcing or bad power supply..
if in dry mode let the unit run for an hour and it will stop blinking ..

Fans not working

Yeah, I had this happen to one of mine, the motor bearing siezed. Even though mine had run out of warranty and I kludged a fix for it Oreck replaced it anyways after inspecting the unit.

Temporary kludges that worked: light machine oil on the motor bearing, flipping the motor over internally, turning the unit on its edge so that it rides on a 'fresh' part of the bearing, running the unit on 'high' while I was out of the house.
