Fridge not cooling...tested evaporator fan

The fridge is not cooling but the freezer works. The evaporator fan was not running even with the freezer door switch depressed. We took out the fan and tested it and it runs. I am wondering if the damper is closed if the fan motor will start. What should the next step be?

I look forward to your response,
FM

I actually can't get the fan to run at all when I press the switch. I'm not sure if I tested the fan properly (removed it and connected directly to line voltage).

Does the fan run if the vent to the refrigerator is closed?

O.k....I removed the switch, disassembled it, copper contacts (which kill the fan/turn on the lightbulb in "
open" position and vice versa when closed.) are burnt like the tip of a MIG gun when the painter gets done learning that it really ISN'T as easy as it looks...hha ha ha ha....so....could the burnt switch signify a a more severe malfunction, like a short in the fan or compressor? Because my red and red/white wires are hot all day, but when i bridged them ... the fan never came on ...

Check door switches
when you open the dorr does the fan normally stop then on closing start again
could be door switch fault

so if you removed the fan and run it on the mains that means that it works but not getting power to it

you will need to check the circuit that feeds the fan with power

maybe the door switch is faulty

if you have a side by side fridge there is sometimes 2 switches , one on each door check your switches with an ohm meter after removing it

    note the wiring before removing

bridge switch wiring out (see if that makes fan Run)

Samsung RB31F Fridge/Freezer - fridge temperature too high, freezer OK

1-The condenser coils are usually located under the refrigerator. They dissipate heat as refrigerant passes through them. If the condenser coils are dirty, they won't dissipate the heat effectively. As debris builds up on the coils, the refrigerator becomes less efficient, causing the refrigerator to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the proper temperature. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty-if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.
2-The evaporator fan motor draws air over the evaporator (cooling) coils and circulates it throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Some refrigerators have more than one evaporator fan motor. On refrigerators with only one evaporator, the evaporator is located in the freezer compartment. If the evaporator fan is not working, it will not circulate the cold air to the refrigerator compartment. If this occurs, the freezer may still get cold, while the refrigerator will not get cold. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor.

Our refrigerator is not cooling at all. The freezer is working fine, but no cool air is getting to the refrigerator section. A couple of weeks ago, this problem happened after the freezer had started...

Some fridges only cool the freezer and an evaporator fan motor moves cool air from the freezer to the fridge side. If this fan doesn't spin very freely then it may need to be replaced. You should also pull out the fridge and see where the drain hose is connected to the inside of the fridge, try pouring hot water down the hose to see if it is open. It may be clogged with a pea or some food or frozen. If your fridge is really full, make sure there is nothing in front of where the evaporator fan blows air into the fridge. Make sure that the adjuster flap is open in the fridge section.

Freezer works, fridge doesn't

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Fridge not cooling

Check and see if your evaporator fan motor is working in the freezer. Also, if your defrost system is not working and your evaporator coil is frosted up, you will not get any cold air to the refrigerator section. You should see alot of frost on the back wall of the freezer where the evaporator coil is located. If your evaporator fan motor is working and there is no frost build up on the coil, the air diffuser to the refrigerator section may be the problem. Put your hand in front of it when the evaporator fan motor is running and feel if any air is coming thru. There are a number of conditions that can cause your problem. This should get you started!
