Question about Amana AMV5164 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Not sucking properly

Our model is AMV5164BCS. We have had your service person here twice now and he can't make the suction any better. I got an independent service person in with 40 years experience and he has worked on Amana's before but this model is one of the poorest designs that he has come accross. In talking with your people again and told that this is as good as it will be I decided on doing some experimenting myself. There is more suction at the grill on top than at the bottom were it is suppose to be, motor is put in right, so I put cardboard behind the grill and this made a big difference but it's still not perfact. My question is, is this going to hurt anything?
Our house is new and our builder is using it as a model home to show people. We have a sign up explaining the microwave not working and not to buy one of these models. They all noticed the cardboard at the grill. Not very good advertising. We bought all new Amana appliances and are happy with everything but the microwave. Since this is as good as I'm told it will be we are stuck with it until I can afford one that works. I did offer to buy another model that would work but was told by this person there that they couldn't do this. Hope this is ok what I've done as a temperary soltion or maybe someone can come upwith another solution.

Re: Not sucking properly

Barry, Please remove the cardboard. You are restricting the air flow that is necessary for cooling the Magnetron. If the Magnetron is not cooled it will overheat, gasp for air and die.
Most say their MW sucks, but yours does not. Is it properly Vented? Some builders have not given sufficient ducting to Built-In-Microwaves. Some went cheap and attic vented the units. If it is being choked in exhaust, it will not intake (SUCK) properly. Also remember Air flow is a current same as water or electricity it will take the path of least resistance. With your unit pulling more from the top than the bottom says that is the point of least resistance. Perhaps the wrong baffle was used be the installer. There were at least 2 different choises.

Frigidaire gallery otr microwave vent not working

Hello Lori Wilson - Thanks for your post! Generally speaking, the vent is not very strong. Try to place a single paper towel on the underside of the microwave. With the vent on, it should suction the paper towel to the bottom of the microwave. If not, I personally recommend contacting the installer to verify that the vent fan is installed properly and the exhaust outer is correct.

For the Jenn-Air Model JMV8208AA The microwave was dealer installed and is room vented. The vent does not pull vapors from the cook top of the oven. Regardless of the venting level used, the pull...

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

Well first of all I would take a piece of paper or newspaper, and put it up by the vents, the paper should be sucked on by the vent.. If it does that you have suction. if it does not hold the paper, you should get a warranty repair, i am assuming this new.

If the unit is install to far above the stove you may have a issue.

But long story short, the room vented units, do not really pull much smoke, they pull better on outside venting. you are just putting smoke/steam back into the room, just a little cleaner.

I tried to help you. Please help me and Rate/Vote on my response. We take the time to answer your question. take the time to rate us.Thanks and good luck

High Point Microwave has no functions

I actually got ahold of the pretty much non-existent microwave division of the manufacturer called Pelonis USA, Ltd. Now if you google this company you will only find service and warrany for their heater division. The actual service number for the microwave division is a personal cell number. As stated by a tech this is a fuse issue so (get this) they only warranty the gears not the fuses. BUT it gets a little better. Through the coach's purchasing dealer you can get a replacement. This company will work through the dealers. Call the heater division's service number at 866-876-4332 (located in Grand Prairie, TX) and ask for Shalom in the microwave division. You will be given a personal cell phone number w/ area code starting in 415 or an office number with area code 847.

Suction fan on GE over-the-range microwave

If the blade is not big enough, the motor not powerful enough, or the vent size is wrong then it will not work properly, On thing you can do is check the vent cap and make sure that it has not falling down onto the vent pipe and blocking air movement.

Dear friends..

The problems you have described have to do with preprogrammed computer circuit boards that cannot be serviced except by GE authorized service persons. Since these ovens are out of warranty I am sorry to say you need to replace them. Service on these units would be at least twice as expensive as a new one.

I would suggest that you check the manual to be sure it;s set up right.

Then you need to check any filters that are in place.

You should also check behind the grille for any obstructions or dust, etc.

1. Unplug it from the outlet.
2. Remove any screws and unlatch any tabs in the vent grille.
3. Pull up and/or out to remove the grille.

Whirlpool customer service is here and you can also enter your model number on that page to download your owner's manual, installation instructions, etc..

I need to buy a new microwave.

Can't the old one be fixed? I personally like Sharp the very best due to great service info availability and very reasonable part prices for the most part. Despite decent avilability of basic service info, GEs part prices can be beyond sky high. But I'd have to say I dislike Whirlpool most because of serious shortcomings in both departments. These are my professional and personal opinions.
