Question about Acer AL1717 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer Monitor AL1917 W

I have plugged in the monitor to the computer, but it won't work unless you turn the monitor on then turn the tower on. Is this normal for these types of screens?

Re: Acer Monitor AL1917 W

When you unplug the data cable from the PC, you should usually get a 'no signal' message from the screen itself.

Other LCDs (like in this case), you have to plug it in and turn it one slightly before your PC goes on, so it can auto-adjust to the resolution your PC has.

Hi! i got a acer al 1917 screen home from work, it seems fine when i start it and the acer startup screen comes up on display. but there it ends, when i plug it in, my cpu reacts on there is a screen...

Use a flashlight and shine on your screen. Look carefully is you still see the image on the screen. If you do, this is an indication that the monitor is still working, but the backlight has failed. A common solution with backlight-failures is to open the monitor, and look if you see any "swollen" capacitors ( If you see one you should replace it. Only open your monitor if you know what you're doing and have basic knowledge of electronics and soldering.

Dual Monitors. #1 works fine. Plug inb #2 and #1 goes to sceeen saver and #2 stays blank.

Both monitors must be plugged in when the computer is started for the second monitor to be detected, and you must configure the second monitor once the computer has started
In windows XP: control panel -> display -> settings tab -> select second display -> check "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" -> click apply
In windows vista/7: control panel -> adjust screen resolution -> select second display and then under "multiple displays" select "Extend desktop to this display"

No sound from this monitor. I have everything plugged in , volume icon is turned all the way, mute is off, adjusted speaker levels, etc on my desktop.

You need to check if the green cable from the computer tower is blugged into the back of the monitor (The cable looks the same at both the ends) this is for the output to come through the monitor.

If that is plugged in and if not working, Try a headphone on the tower and check if the sound is coming from the headphone, If yes, You will have to adjust the volume on the monitor or the speaker of the monitor might have gone bad. If there is no sound coming in, Then the problem is with the tower and not the monitor.

The monitor drive is only for allowing the resolution and some color adjustment that the OS may not have, the scrolling problem more like to be the PC mouse or setting problem.

Solution for more resolution

The native resolution for this monitor is 1280 x 1024 @60Hz, your PC should easily be able to put out this resolution, unless you do not have correct video card driver installed.

I need to know how to remove the footstand from my acer al1917 monitor pleas.

The wide black cover that seems to be part of the monitor on the back is in fact removable. Put your fingers/nails on the small gap on the underside and pull. There is some resistance but it is not too hard. Then you find 4 screws. Unscrew and voilà ... fixed!

Monitor screen shaking and flickering

Check to make sure the cables are connected tightly. Wiggle the cable, does it get better or worse? Might need a new cable. And reseat the video card inside the computer. If that doesn't fix it, then yes you will probably need a new monitor.
