Startup Problem My Compaq Armada 1750. When it starts up it gets past the compaq screen, then it goes blank, and will not boot from cd, floppy disk, or hard drive. i cant access the F10 Setup menu. i think its a no go. i've seen problems like this before but never quite this bad. how it started: it is running Win XP. i started it up and was using it normal (like i'd always use it) and it froze so i tried rebooting it and that's when the problem occured. Please Reply, and thanks for your time.

Re: Startup Problem

On the 1750 the setup bios settings are held on the hard drive, if you cant get any further I would suggest the drive is dead.

When a compaq armada m700 laptop is showing non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready

this usually happens when the computer is trying to boot from a disk that isn't a valid boot disk.

if you have a floppy drive plugged into the multibay and a floppy in the drive, try removing the floppy.
if there is no floppy involved, try to boot from your system recovery disks, as it's likely that the boot record on the hard drive will need repaired. your system recovery disks should walk you through the process.

Compaq armada e500

you can safely install up to a 80 GB HDD in that compaq. When getting into the bios go to the boot sequence section and change the boot squence to be CD=>HDD=>FLOPPY or FLOPPY=>CD=>HDD

Cannot get past the log in screen asking for user/password

There are Linux password recovery programs on the Internet that allow you to remove the passwords on User accounts.
You can Google search and download the program, you then need to make a boot CD with this program.

ALternately you can purchase a copy of Windows XP or Vista and wipe Windows 2K and install XP or Vista on the laptop.

Accessing bios

Some Compaq's actually have a partition on the hard drive for the BIOS. If someone
> used FDISK to remove the partition, then you won't be able to get into the BIOS
>without either re-creating the partition or by booting from a floppy with the setup
>utility on it. One of Compaq's disks will re-create the partition, but of course,
>will blow away all the data on your hard drive.
>I had to download two programs from Compaq:
>1) PC Diagnotics
>2) Setup for Portables
>I got them from the Drivers section of Compaq's site.
>This was one of the files, it is for an Armada 1750, so it probably won't work if
>you have a different machine, but will give you an idea of what to look for:

Boot up with no operating system

When the system starts, hold the F10 key and go into BIOS and set CD Rom as 1st Boot device (in Boot Order). Because most Compaq's would put the BIOS in a hidden NON-DOS partition on the hard drive, you may have to get an OEM recovery disk for that model. Because there is no BIOS to go to, the machine doesn't know it has a CD, HD or Floppy to go to. A boot floppy/CD is no help. Alternative 1: With another desktop and IDE to Laptop HD connector, FDISK (make active partition and hidden partition [5mb]), Format both, copy the cabs from WinME CD to c:\windows\options. Alternative 2: Find the COMPAQ OEM CD for that model. Since there was no exact model number Click here Please indicate whether this is helpful or not.
