Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced.

I have a GE range JGB290MEN2BS. I relaced the broiler igniter p.n. WB13K21 My question is: should the ingniter continue to glow after the flame ignites. i assumed it would go off when the flame came on...

No, the igniter continues to glow. Current has to flow through the igniter to allow the main valve to open and allow the gas to flow. So the igniter will be on all the time while the broiler is operating.

We have a 6 burner, nat gas cooktop....all unit light but the igniter clicking will not stop...unplugged it . question: all mechanics are closed is this safe gaswise?

What happens in this style ignition system is that the thermostat or electronic control switches power to the oven ignitor and gas valve circuit which are connected in series (one after the other). As power flows through the ignitor it heats and draws current (measured in amperage). Once the oven ignitor draws a specific amount of current the oven valve opens to allow gas to flow to the oven burner where the glowing hot ignitor (glow bar) ignites it. Power must continually flow through the ignitor and oven gas valve for gas to be released into the oven burner to create a flame. Once the set temperature is achieved the control stops all power to the ignition circuit which causes the ignitor to dim and the oven gas valve to close, stopping any burner flame. Cycling on and off continues to maintain the specific temperature the control is set for.

Heating element comes on to high by it's self when no buttons have been touched. I had just finished cooking a cassorole. I closed the door and sat down to eat, when after 5 minutes had passed the exhaust...

I am sorry but the relay that controls the heating element has become faulty, if you or someone you know can change it then just follow the heater lead to the relay and replace

Microwave caught fire

It sounds like a failed high-voltage transformer.

That oven retails for about $80 right now, so I don't think a non-warranty repair is economical.

But since a FLAME(!) came out of it, I would think you have a VERY strong case to "convince" Sharp to give you a replacement pronto...

You can contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277).
