Re: Screen freezes when I type a new message
It seems like this is a firmware issue or conflict between the softwares or whatever your may have downloaded. You can repair it yourself, but be careful not to brick / kill your phone with wrong softwares.
Your local repair shop can help you too, if its under warranty bring to store to flash for free.

My Samsung cell phone limits me to 140 characters so this is not unheard of. I split my messages to under 140 and ask people who need to write a veritable epistle to do so by email because my phone cuts vital pieces when it chops messages up on receipt.
Select the "Texting," "Text Messaging" or similar option on the menu screen.
Choose the "Text Options" or "Options" selection on the "Text Messaging" screen. Choose "New Message" or "New Msg" if no "Options" selection is available, then press the button associated with the "Options" selection found on the blank message screen.
Select "Entry Mode" on the screen. A list of options appear.
Select a non-iTap mode, such as "Symbols" or "abc2." Press "OK." The iTap entry mode is disabled.
Welcome to Fixya. If you want to undo the preddictive text just follow the guide below.
1. From any text entry screen (ie. when you are writing a text message), press the top center button, the one above the directional wheel.
2. Press on Entry SetUp
3. Select the Primary Set Up or Secondary Setup by choosing your preferred input mode among the ones below. Us the wheel by pressing on the right arrow to change mode:
ITAP: it's a built-in software which predicts the word you are typing. THIS IS PREDICTIVE TEXT
TAP: enter individual letters and numbers by pressing the keys multiple times. Ie. for the letter F press the number 3 button three times.
Tap Extended: enter individual letters, numbers and symbols by pressing the keys multiple times
To change from one mode to the next you can select it by pressing the top center button from a text entry screen, and Press on Entry Mode. Shortcut: you can press the # key on your phone when you are writing a message and you will see abc1 for your primary mode, 123 for numeric; @ for symbols; and abc2 for your secondary mode.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.
Go to messages, new message, go to the menu(middle button) select entry options/method/settings, go to primary and select TAP English, go to Secondary and select None. Text-Entry Methods: iTAP - Lets you enter words using one key press per letter. The iTAP® method combines your key presses into common words and predicts each word as you enter it. TAP - Lets you enter letters and numbers by pressing a key repeatedly to cycle through the letters and number on that particular key. TAP Extended - Same as TAP, but cycles through additional special characters and symbols as you repeatedly press a key. Text-Entry Modes: Primary - You can set your Primary entry mode to any iTAP or TAP entry method. Secondary – You can set your Secondary entry mode to any iTAP or Tap entry method, or you can set it to None if you do not want a Secondary entry mode. Numeric - Enter numbers by pressing the number keys. Symbol - Enter symbols by pressing a key; its symbols are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Scroll to the desired symbol and then press Select. To set the text-entry mode or method:
From a text-entry screen, press Options.
Scroll to and select Entry Setup or Text Setup.
Select the desired text-entry mode or method.
Tip: From any text entry-screen, you can quickly change your text-entry mode without leaving that screen. Press the # key repeatedly to cycle through the text-entry modes: Primary, Secondary, Numeric, and Symbol. With each press of the # key, the mode indicator in the upper left of the text-entry screen changes.
This happens to all KRZR phones and there is no way around it. The KRZR has many software defects that Motorola will not fix because the phone is outdated. This shouldn't happen all the time, but it will probably happen a lot.
If you cant send a text at all, try a software upgrade.
The problem is autocomplete.. disable it and the text messaging will stop freezing. Just go into the same screen as if you're about to type up a text. Then follow these menu prompts "Options>Text Setup>Word Completion (Off)" That should help.
Is this an unlocked phone from another carrier? If so you need to call AT&T to download mms messaging, and Medianet so u can download games and such. Another thing to mention is, if it is from another carrier you may not be able to get games. My razr was from Cingular, I cracked the simlock (cingular refused to give me the key, none the less), cost me $10. I called my carrier (T-mobile) and they were more than happy to send the links to get my txt and web working. The only thing I can't get is games. Backgrounds and Ringtones download fine. Sorry, am babbling, Call your carrier, and I am sure they will send you the links to download txt and medianet. I looked on their site and can't find the links to help you.
yeah i know what you're saying! my phone works fine, but it's just sending the texts is what freezes mine, and i dont want to lose my info. either. i wonder if there is a solution to fix this? my dad found that there is some setting configuration that will set the texting settings to normal or something, but he's working on that now, but i will keep posting updated information!
