The scanner keeps saying that my USB is not plugged in and it is

I have restarted the computer and have unplugged and plugged it back in (USB) and I still get the message that it's not plugged in. I have a HP Photo smart C4280 All-in-one. It prints and copies perfectly but will not scan. Can you help me?

    kodak printer will copy from printer from site, but will not let you use photo part of printer. shows this-msg_opends failed with result 1 and condition code 5. when you try to use photo scanner.

There is a workaround without messing with drivers. I have the same problem if I use the buttons on the v40 and try to scan. I get the V40 can not connect to the PC message.

Workaround:

Go to Control Panel-->Scanners and Cameras

In there you will find: Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet V40 Scanner

Right click and select Scan. It will then start the scan wizard which will scan your document.

Some times its USB cable length issue. What cable length you are using, try a cable with one meter maximum length.

Hey JD!
It probably means that the scanner isn't configured well in the computer. What you should do, while to printer is turned on and connected to the computer is to go to the device manger (right click on "my computer" or "computer", and then go to the tab named "device manager"). go to "universal series bus controllers" and press on the plus sign. you should then have a list, search for "USB composite device" in that list. when you find it, right click on it and then left click on "uninstall" or "remove", approve it (press yes or OK) and after it done, disconnect the usb cable that connects the computer to the printer and restart the computer. only after the computer is booted up completely, you should reconnect the cable. after you do that you should get a pop up that says that new hardware is being installed (or something like that). wait for it to finish and after it says "you new hardware is installed and ready" (should appear near you computer clock), try to scan, it should work fine now. Did you plug the scanner's USB cable into the computer, BEFORE you installed the drivers?

This can lead to a driver conflict.
When a hardware device is connected to a computer, Windows automatically sets out to match up drivers for it. If no driver is found that ->directly matches the device, Windows matches up one of it's generic drivers. Kind of a "One size fits all", type of thing.

Then THE drivers are installed. Now Windows has a conflict of drivers.
Windows: "Do I use these, or THESE?"

Suggest you unplug the USB cable from the scanner to computer, (If plugged in) Turn the scanner off, and unplug it from power.

Then go to All Programs, (Start>Hover your mouse on All Programs), and look at the list to the right for the Agfa Snapscan software.
See if an "Uninstall" option is listed. If so click on it. (If it asks if you wish to save preferences - NO!)

If not, go to Add/Remove Programs, (Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs), and find the Afga software in the list. Click on Remove.

DO NOT restart your computer, (Even if it asks)
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)
Unplug your computer from power.

Press the Power ON button in, and Hold it in for a count of at least Five seconds. (Count, 1001,..1002,..1003,..1004,..1005)
Let go of the Power On button.
Do This ->Two more times.

What you are doing is clearing any CMOS Error Codes, (And resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings)

Plug your computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, then turn it on.
After Windows has fully loaded, install the drivers from the CD disk you burned them to. If you didn't save the drivers to a CD disk, download the drivers again. Install them with the Installation Wizard.

After you're done, restart your computer.
After Windows has fully loaded again, plug the scanner back into power. If it sounds like it's resetting itself, wait until it's done. Now plug the USB cable into the computer from the scanner, turn the scanner on.

I am trying to reinstall HP Scanjet 5400c but it keeps telling me it can't initialize, no scanner recognized...WindowsXP.. it worked before, why not now?


I had similar problem with my UMAX scanner on numerous occasions. I now have this pg earmarked for quick reference! may help I don't know for sure but it is an easy test and if it works your good to go!
It is important that you connect the scanner's power and USB cables in the following order:
1. Plug the power adapter cord into the scanner and into an outlet. The scanner's power will then be on.
2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the
back or front of the computer.
NOTE: If you unplug the scanner's power ,you must also disconnect the USB cable from the computer. To resume use of the scanner, remove the power card, the the USB cable.

Sounds like a lot but the order is essential!
If it works, High lite Do unplug USB/unplug cable back of scanner/and plug cable back of scanner then USB!

Scanner suddenly disappeared from the Applications folders.


First unplug scanner, turn off mac, remove mac battery and unplug adapter, plug everything back , restart and reconnect.

If that did not work, then do the following:

Unplug scanner usb and reinstall scanner/printer software again on your MAC.

Canoscan lide 70 stopped working


Disconnect (unplug from power outler) PC from power cable for 10 mins. Unplug scanner. Restart pc, plug back scanner. Restart PC and check if it works.
If it doesn't start you may need to reinstall drivers .

Not sure but i went to a down load site and downloaded my drives again and mine started working go to google and type in lexmark 1180 printer drives
