Question about Olevia Kolin DLT2711M 27 in. LCD Television

Volume sticking?? My friend has the same model I have and they were purchased together on the same day about 2-3 years ago. She has had problems once under warranty for the same problem and now again, of course, not under warranty anymore. Syntax tells her it would cost $500 to fix it, where she could purchase a new one for that price. The problem is that when it is turned on, the screen is blue with the VOLUME bar. The volume turns itself all the way down and that is it. You cannot do anything else. I've tried to reset it, tried manually turning it on (without the remote) Thinking it might be the remote, but nothing. I can try to fix it for her but I have no clue when it comes to TV's. Computers no problem, but I never worked on a TV before. Is it a matter of replacing a part, and if so what do I need?

Re: Volume sticking??

Issue that you have explained can be related to volume control micro switch. Sometimes due to humidity or stuck contact volume goes up without user's control. You may try to pull the volume + button and exercise the contact. replacing micro switch is really low cost like a dollar. but soldering should be done by a skilled tech.

There is secondary possibility that controller IC might be malfunctioning, It will not cost more than $20 to replace the IC.
Please post if you have further questions.

Good Luck

Hi, I purchased the same model in November 2009. About 2 weeks ago a single horizontal line appeared. Each day another appeared until today when the video went out. Now it displays bands of vertical colored lines like a pastel colored rainbow. Did you find a solution to the problem?

You should buy a sodering kit and remove the buldging capacitors yourself. Find a local electronics store, I used Radioshack, and see if they can match the capacitors. I had this happen with my Samsung lcd about a year ago and just help another friend with the same issue yesterday. The sodering is not as hard as you'd think. The capacitors should be under $5 v. paying a few hundred for the power board.

My Sony Bravia remote control is slowly loosing it's functions.

You can repair some of these remotes. Usually the hard part is getting the cover off. they are not really made to be serviced. The problem with most all remotes that start doing what you describe is either wear or something spilled on it. You can fix it. Sony remotes may have 1 screw in the battery compartment. remove it and try sliding the front and back. If that dosen't work try prying from one side with a sharp edege. If you do manage to get it open take the PC board out. You will see a rubber like membrane that lays against the board. Try cleaning that with a qtip and rubbing alcahol. Then clean the PC board the same way especially where the pads of rubber contact the board. Make sure it's completely dry and snap it back together. If it works better good, if not the pads are to worn and you just have to replace. Good Luck.

Display problem for magnavox 42" model 42mf230a/37

first make sure its not an input problem or from an external source.Disconnect all inputs and see if lines are present with no inputs to tv.if lines affect menu and or ON SCREEN DISPAY (top) there is a good chance (SSB) board could be bad .I would start with this board first ,lvds cable (second) and last the logic board (comes only with new LCD)

TV changes input and sound on its own

The only simple thing you can do is to check the manual buttons on the set for any sticking. When pressing a button down you can feel the detent.(click) When releasing the button it should raise up freely. Sometimes while cleaning the cabinet moisture gets on the switch assembly under the buttons causing random activity. I have experienced three common causes for your problem. 1 sticking buttons 2 defective switch assembly. The assembly can be unplugged from the circuit to see if the problem goes away. 3 a problem with the microprocessor that controls the functions.( requires a qualified tech to repair
) hope this helps
