690 SubZero Side-by-Side Fridge

I clean the condensor every few months. Now I have a message that flashes "vacuum condensor" always even when the condensor is spotless. I there something else I need to clean inside? I have had the unit for 7 years and it is flawless.

I have the same problem on a 690 that is 9 years old. The condenser is spotless yet the "vacuum condenser" light comes back on about 12-24 hours after restarting the unit. The entire condenser area could not be more clean and free of lint, dust, etc.

I have a 680 SubZero Side-by-side. Our vacuum condensor light also keeps coming on. We have cleaned the condensor thoroughly. After shutting the unit off and unplugging for 10 minutes, it seems to reset and hold the temperature until we put the grill on the front back on. Then the temperature rises again. After about 24-48 hours the vacuum condensor light comes back on and the refrig will fluctuate between 38 and 46 degrees. Frustrating.. Anyone have a solution yet?

Our subzero is also 7 years old and keeps flashing vacuum condensor. We vacuumed it and reset it and the light came back on. The authorized technicians, North Eastern Appliances in Westchester, charged us $95 to vacuum it again, and still the light came back on. They came out a second time, at no charge, and still did not manage to fix the problem. No refund on the charge though!! Over the phone they are now saying we need a new condensor for $625 and have done no diagnostic testing on the fridge yet. Another company says they will test both fridge and freezer with a machine to determine exactly what the problem is, however they suspect it needs a new evaporator at the cost of $900 plus a $85 call out fee. Wherever we spend our precious dollars, are we going to be free of the flashing light when we are finishe?. Does anyone know the real cause of the problem? Apparently if is is not fixed immediately the cost to repair could be in the thousands??! Help please....

I have cleaned inside the refrigerator and am wanting to clean underneath the unit. Do I need to cut off power to fridge in order to pull out tray after removing kickplate?

If the light keeps coming back on and temps are rising in the refer section, then you most likely have an evaporator leak. Check to see if you see either a moist spot or ice on the back wall on the left side of the back wall of the refer. If you do, it's definetly a leak. Call a authorized Servicer.

One more thing to look at. There is a water drain tube that takes condensation from the inside of the refrigerator and transports it to a collection pan under the until. Subzero used a "covered coil" type tube for this. If any food particals become hung up on one of the coils in the tube water will back up and cause ice to form on the evaporator. The system is dumb and will tell you to vacuum the condensor under this condition as well. I replaced the Subzero OEM tubing with a hunk of rubber fuel line and never had ths problem again.

You need to call an authorized servicers. Its been my experience in that particular situation there is a leak in the evaporator which is still covered under a 12 year part warranty.

There are 7 buttons on the door -- all are labeled and none are "Bell" looking. Is the "Bell" button above the fridge? Thanks

It is perfectly normal for the refr door on a side by side Subzero to stick out a little further than the freezer door. That light could mean several things. If you have vacuumed the condenser then you should call a repairman to look at it.

Sub zero 690 vacuum condensor light flashing, clean vac. condensor, light still flash after 2 days.

I assume from your post you have vacuumed the condensor at the top of the unit? Did you do this regularly over the life of the unit? You have shut the unit off for at least 5 minutes (allowing it to reset) and then turned it back on and the vac condensor light still flashes? I had this same thing happen - unfortunately for me I have had to replace the condensor twice in the 12 years I have owned the unit. Luckily first time was covered by warrantly (parts and labor). Second time was in the 11th year and the parts were covered, and the labor was covered 50% after I complained......It ended up being a leak in the sealed system (condensor). If it keeps happening you may want to call for service - could be that it just needs freon, but it could be the condensor)

Subzero 680 - vacuum condensor message won't go away.

You can reset it by turning the unit on and off or if you have a door alarm button hold that for 30 seconds and that should clear the fault code.

How do you reset the fridge to remove the vacuum condensor light on our subzero 690 refrigerator

You have to press the unit off button inside of the refrigerator and then press it again to turn the fridge back on. The light should go away after that

My vaccume condensor light is flashing and my refrigerator is 55 degrees. I vaccumed the coils on the side of the fan What could be the problem ?

You may need to unplug the fridge for a few hours and let it reset itself. Also make sure coils are clean and there is plenty of air flow to the condensor..

Sub zero 690

Call the factory at 800-222-7820.They will give you a list of the authorized servicers in your area. It sounds like the evaporator and the parts will be covered by the year 6 through 12 parts only warranty. If you are in Westchester County $625 sounds right. The vacuum condensor flashes when the compressor has too long of a run time and will reaapear a day or so after it has been reset. I assume the tech made sure the condensor fan was running and the condensr is actually clean.

Older subzero side by side not cooling

At sixteen years old it is almost through its life span. A change in ambient temperatures will change internal system pressures. Make sure the condenser is cleaned well. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean off the condenser, then blow it out with compressed air. Even though a condenser looks clean on its surface fins there may be dust down in between the fins.

Subzero 690 flashing EC and service

If you replace the fan and clean the coils, and the refrigerator STILL does not cool, then contact SubZero or a service provider for an evaporator coil replacement.  Units manufacturer before mid-2003 had copper+aluminum coils that would corrode and allow all of the coolant to escape.  The (should be warranty) replacement is all aluminum.
Note the freezer does not have this issue due to the lack of liquid water.
