Re: ge side by side 5yr old Refrigerator

You will most likely have to replace the main controller board.. I have had the problem come up before and the GE boards are known for going out..The board is located on the back right side of the refrigerator has a cover plate about 6" across and 8" high The most likely failure is the relay to turn on the compresser (it is a small bk box on the board) you can unplug it and open this panel plug it back in and tap the relay with the back side of a screwdriver and see if you hear the compressor running.. Let me know

CSH22GR- water on floor, at left front of refrigerator (looking at it) approx. every other day. ? source ideas?

The freezer floor may be frozen over with ice due to a clogged drain..the drain gets froze up and the water actually runs over the floor of freezer and goes out the door..if froze up..defrost and open drain..

We left the freezer door open all the refrigerator will not get cold?

the freezer needs to be shut down for a whole day in order to defrost the evaporator coils completely.
this can also be done by removeing the rear panel in the frezzer and using a blow dryer until all the ice is gone and then the unit should return to cooling normally

GE Profile leaking onto floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

Ice and water not working, then freezing in refrigerator, leaking

If the water tank in the fresh food section is leaking then you will need to replace it. the freezing in the fresh food section is due to the damper door not closing when it should. at the top left of the fresh food side there is a door that controls how much cold air it gets from the Freezer side. This door on your GE is controled by a motorized door witch is controled by a controlboard witch is reading sensors in your freezer and freshfood section for tempretures.

In short your freezing problem could be any of these:
temp sensor, Motorized damper door or control board. I would check the Motorized damper door first.

GE Side by side runs constantly.

The timer that controls the defrost cycle/function, may have failed and there may be no defrosting occurring. If icing of the coils due to the missing defrost cycle, there may not be enugh circulation left to keep the thermostat happy.

Try defrosting it manually (I know, it's a pain - aren't we spoiled?) and see if the compressor then cycles for a few days before it starts running continuously again.

And for Dr. Fred, the above suggestion about trying manually defrosting applies to your problem too.
The exposure to overnight moisture (ice accumulation) may have interfered with the automatic cycle.

Left freezer door open-not cooling

Your defrost timer may be stuck! This device turns the compressor off and turns on a heater to defrost everything. The timer is located in the back of the refrigerator section on most units...usually near a vent. You may see a small shaft with a 'one way' end that looks like the business end of a drill bit about 1/4 inch in diameter. If possible, turn it (probably) clockwise about half a turn. That may fix it. Wait and see what happens. If the compressor're on the right track. If not, you'll need to replace it. There are usually a few screws that you'll need to take out to access the timer.

About the ice maker...are you sure you've taken all the packing material out of the unit? Have you plugged in the motor unit? Use care when going near these items. They are mechanical, sharp and you can get injured. See if your manual is available...or online.
