How do i use a scandisk to backup all the files on my computer. Have never used one.

It would be impractical to backup everything that is on the computer as it will contain a lot of program files and unwanted junk that will take you more time to backup and wont work right.
You need to setup a backup for the important files that you need and save of the disk space on the scandisk as well.

Either you can do this manually for all the files you have or call 1-877-805-1027 for toll free help.

Cannot "unmute' -volume control

First, check the connections and make sure you have everything plugged in correctly. Restart the PC...try clicking on the icon again...if that doesn't work, post back and we'll try to figure it out.

Is the backup disks that HP recomended you make when you bought the computer and reinstalll everything. Or
GO to the HP website. Type in your model number and find out the proceedure to reinstall the computer if a Backup exists on the hard driver. In other words download the manual to find out. If not on the hard drive find out the proceedure to opbtain one from them.

Desktop screen freezes up when I 'right click' mouse on any ico

This sounds as if there is a problem with Webshots corrupting a specific dll file in the Windows system. I hate to say this, but that usually means a complete reinstall from scratch. I would recommend trying to backup all of the files and reinstall windows.

You may need to re install it............
Using your Windows CD :
To manually install Backup: 1. Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM to start a wizard that installs Backup: CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP 2. When the wizard is complete, click Finish.

I don't know how to access my Western Digital Backup. I have no icon to click.

If you have a WD Media Center, Dual-option Combo, or Dual-option USB external hard drive, you can use the Retrospect Express software that comes with the drive to create a backup schedule that will backup your data onto the drive.

To setup an automatic duplicate schedule in Retrospect Express 6.5 on a PC, please follow the instructions below.
  1. Start Retrospect Express by pressing the Automatic Backup button on the front of your Media Center external hard drive after you have installed the Retrospect software and powered on and connected the drive.

  2. You will be presented with the Western Digital Automatic Backup Wizard. Click Next to continue.

  3. Highlight the drive(s) that contains the data you wish to backup and click Next. To select multiple drives or folders, hold down the Ctrl key and make your selections.

  4. You will have a choice to backup your documents only or all files, make your selection and click Next.

  5. Highlight the drive you wish to copy your data to and click Next.

  6. You will have the option to run the data duplication daily or once a week. Make your selection and click Next.

    • If you choose a daily duplication, you will have to select the time that you'd like the duplication to start each day, then click Next.

    • If you choose a weekly duplication, you will have to select the day and time that you'd like the duplication to start, then click Next.

    • If you wish to run the duplication one time when you are finished setting up the schedule, check the Start the backup now box and click Finish. Otherwise, just click Finish.

    • You will see the Automatic backup button glow a solid blue. When the blue light is on it indicates that the automatic duplication schedule is enabled and your duplication is set to run at the scheduled time.
For the duplication to run successfully, you must have both the computer and drive powered on and connected correctly at the scheduled time.

When i connected my Maxtor basics 160 for the first time 2 weeks ago i recall a prompt asking me to backup all files (or something similar)which i did. I recall another prompt saying this was successful....

You probably backed them up to the same hard drive that they were on. If you plug in your maxtor hard drive to another machine and it shows it as being empty... this would be my best guess.

Most drives come with backup software that automates the process(as best it can) so that you can one click backup your documents and files(not your operating system).

I prefer to copy and paste my files and do my own backups, but backup software is an easy solution for the do-it-yourself.
