Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
While playing my 80gb playstation 3, with Ratchet and Clank Future Tools Of Destruction, a Playstation 3 game, the playstation 3 system froze. I could tell that the system froze because when I pressed the ps button on the wireless controller, the system menu would not come up. After that I turned off the system and turned it back on as described in the troubleshooting section of the manuel. The system will NOT play ANY Playstation 1 or Playstation 3 games; it will only play Playstation 2 games. I have already unplugged and plugged back in the system. I have also pressed in system settings "restore default settings" and "restore PS3 system". I did a complete reformat. It still will not read any PS3 or PS1 games. It will play DVDS. Please help me.
Sounds like a program error in your software/firmware, or possibly a bad laser (disc reader). I have the same problem from time to time but it's fine after I reboot. If you have already restored to default and did the updates and still have problems I would return it for a new one. Just make sure that you have loaded the latest updates (2.1 or 2.2) I think, before returning it. If the store won't take it back due to some restricyions in their return policies I would suggest contacting Sony and shipping it off for a replacement. Your Sony warranty should cover it but you might have to pay for shipping costs.

Hi this is a huge problem with ps3 it can be one of two problems the first is the expensive one this is over heating if the ps3 has been used on carpet or placed on top of something like dvd player or video or cable or sky box this causes the ps3 to overheat and the damage is usually to expensive to repiar the other problem alot of people are having is with the fan blowing dust onto the laser lense and this causes the ps3 two stop laying certain games if your warrant has run out you could remove the case and clean the lense but dont use any kind of liquid only use dry cloth but a soft one do it gently.
I dont avise doing this if your ps2 still has warranty left as this fault is covered by warranty and they will replace your ps3.
Im going out for couple of hours now so if you need further assistance let me know ok
