Question about Denon AVR-587

Getting TV and DVD player to work through VR-587

Couple years ago I purchased this unit for my parents. I remember we had some challenges setting it up then. The owners manual is not user friendly. Anyway it has worked okay but the setting have not been perfect, I purchased my DAD an HD DVD, for Xmas and we now have both the DVD & HD Cable converter running through the Denon. It has worked fine, until a couple of days ago. My wife messed with the settings, while we have been watching my folks home. Suddenly I have completely lost the video and audio signal to the flat screen TV. I'm generally pretty tech. compenent but again the user's manual is too advanced for a novious like me. Last evening, with much wasted time, I finally was able to get audio through the unit as I was able to hear TV through the unit. But still not able to figure out what needs to be set to get the video signal from the cable box through the receiver to the flat screen. And I have lost the audio again. Since I am willing to pay for this support, I would also like to really set the thing up properly so they have true surround sound. I need to get this done before my folks return Monday night.

I sure there is something simple that I am missing but again the user's manual sucks!!!!!

Check behind tv to see which input is being used,

repeat above step for source and amp. some inputs are assignable on the amp press menu and go to input setup and see how its setup. you got this one good luck.

I have 2 good qaulity heybrook speakers and have tried everything to connect them properly such that both play sound when the tv / dvd is on. Both speakers work perfectly one at a time and both work...

You're guessing. That is exactly the wrong thing to do. Get the manual.

"[D]vd 6 channel input" is for a 6-channel analog input as the name implies. I doubt you even have a source that HAS 6 analog channel outputs.

Speakers are OUTPUTS of the amplifers' speaker posts. Any one can work ANYwhere.

And that bi-wire capability, IF the speakers have it - pretend it isn't there.

Make sure that the volume is not muted or too low on the TV...the TV volume output to your receiver will be performing the function of a pre-amp to your receiver. Then select the appropriate input on the receiver that you have the TV audio connected to.

Have a VR-407 receiver, all of a sudden there's no audio coming out of the speakers from the TV. Also, DVD, tuner and CD player have no sounds. Speakers are only a couple years old.

Check for basic things like speakers being turned off or switched to speaker b from a and the tape monitor switch being on. Larry's Electronics.

How to hook up a kenwood audio-video surround receiver vr-405 to a 46" Bravia tv?

hello all you need is a good pair of RCA cables.

Use the audio output on the TV
run it to the VIDEO 1 input on the receiver

as for your DVD player vcr etc you can either run them directly to the tv as it will output whatever sound is playing to the receiver.

use the receiver as a video switcher and connect your components directly to it.

remember your receiver will need to be set to the input you use. ie: video 1 / dvd etc..

Hope that helps

I have a VR 615 receiver. All 6 surround sound

It all depends on the processing the receiver is doing when recreating the sound. Change the surround mode to Dolby Digital or THX if it's on there. When it is receiving a Left/Right signal only, it does some processing but pretty much spits it out of all the speakers, fronts being the loudest. That's why you always hear them. When it is getting a Digital signal, the receiver does a much better job of processing the audio to the correct speaker, but unless there is a lot of background noise, there might not be any signal going to the speaker.
Also, check to make sure that the "size" of the speaker on the rear channels is set correctly. There is a setting on most receivers to tell the receiver how big the speaker is on that channel. This sets the power level on the output to accomodate the size of the speaker.

Cant get the wiring figured out.........

I have a similar set up. For yours, I would run one optical from your Sat box to your 407 and connect the DVD player optical to the Kenwood as well. This will allow you to get whatever your watching, DVD or Satellite to your speakers. For Video, use the component cables to connect DVD player to TV. For the SAT box, coaxial to TV or S video to TV will give you about the same video quality. I hope this helps. A couple of suggestions: Your new screen size will greatly magnify the quality of your video, what looked good on the Sharp may not look good on the Samsung due to the size difference. I REALLY suggest you get a new SAT box with a HDMI connection. Also you can get a blu ray player in the $120 range. The Blu ray will play blu rays and upconvert DVDs to a higher quality picture through its HDMI connection. You will be amazed at the difference HDMI will make on how your TV will look!

1 front speaker and 1 surround speaker won't work on cable selection

theres probably a problem with the right channel cable or plug that connects the tv to the reciever, or the tv is set to mono audio.
