Sony VAIO Z1WAMP3 PC Notebook

VAIO Z1WAThis message appears when I turn on :

Warning Immediately back up your data and replace your haed disc drive A failure is imminent
Press F1 to Continue

When I press F1 the prompt to start in Safe Mode etc starts, which ever option I choose it takes me back to the warning message above after a minute or so of attempted booting

Sony have suggested replacing the drive, would you agree
They have said I could install the drive on a desk top and this should allow me to recover my data

If you agree with this how do I remove the drive, I have tried to open the computer up and after removing all the screws can only lever the front section open a little and it is being held together around the keyboard area and by the lid pillars

Hope you can help

Smart error, failure or S.M.A.R.T. has been tripped. They all mean the same thing. Your PC's HDD is dying, how fast? Nobody knows. So what it really comes down to is that you have a limited amount of time to access your HDD in more ways than your panicked mind can come up with right now. So until you can figure out a plan, the most important thing you can do is turn off your PC. Remember running your HDD is using up valuable time. So remove the HDD, Go get a reliable replacement (your HDD is dying) and install your favourite O/S. At this point I would suggest you purchase an external HDD enclosure so can hook up the old HDD and transfer back the important files.

How do you restore the laptop with the internal restore system

1. According to the specifications available online, your Computer is shipped with the VAIO Recovery Center software, present in a hidden partition. You can use the VAIO Recovery Center to install the preinstalled Operating System, Applications and the original Drivers.

2. Restart the Computer and press the F10 key when the Sony logo appears to check whether the Computer is able to access the VAIO Recovery Center.

NOTE: Restart the System, tapping the F10 key immediately. This should trigger the System to boot directly to the Recovery Partition, and initiate the VAIO Recovery Center, without requiring the Windows Operating System to load.

3. If you're able to access the VAIO Recovery Center, select the option 'Restore C: Drive' and follow the onscreen instructions to perform a C: Drive Recovery to resolve the issue.

4. Performing a C: Drive Recovery will erase all the data present in the C: Drive and will reinstall the pre-installed Operating System, Applications and the original Drivers.
