A E071 deals with the transfer drum unit engaging unit. Has the transfer sheet been replaced lately? There is also a drive unit on the back side of the copier for lifting the transfer drum. There is a senor that may be dirty or damaged.

I had the same error message E071. Had to call out an engineer who diagnose the Drum 701 was leaking toner - this got on the electrical contacts at the bottom of the drum. He cleaned the contacts on the drum and in the machine - put my old Drum in there and all is OK. The drum was 9 months old and not had much use so I am trying to get a replacement from Canon under warantee.
E071 ITB home position sensor fault Check the connector of the ITB home position sensor. Replace the ITB home position sensor. Replace the DC controller PCB.
E071 error stands for ITB position sensor fault,so you may try to check if the ITB belt is ok, if there is no paper left overs or similar, but this error can occure when the main board ( dc controller ) is defective.
