Dco5 burning smell not working

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC05 is making a burning smell, it sounds like it may be the motor that's at fault. DC05 is one of our very oldest machines, and unfortunately since the start of 2015, we have no longer been able to support DC05 with spares or servicing due to its age. However we do have some discount offers available so DC05 owners can upgrade to the latest Dyson technology if they choose to do so.

If you'd like to find out more or discuss your options with our experts, you're welcome to call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson dc14 when you push the start button doesnt turn on? could the button need replaced

The most likely fault is a break in the cable near the point where it enters the machine, if cable is ok it could be the switch, or it could be a fuse in the plug if you have fused plugs. Get someone to check the cable, often the broken part can be removed, and you end up with a slightly shorter cable by about 20cm

I was using the Dyson, turned off to empty tank, will not turn on again, I have checked outlet it is ok. Does it have some kind of safety if it gets to hot. Thanks

there is a thermal fuse built into the motor of all dysons that will cut the power if the motor gets too hot.
when the motor cools down again, the fuse will normally reset itself.

try the hoover again after a few hours and see if it works again.
also change the fuse in the plug to check that that has not blown

Our upright Dyson has just stopped working. No

There are four possibilities:
1) If in a country that has a fused plug, the fuse in the plug (unlikely). 2) The switch (unlikely). 3) A break inside the cable that you cannot see (quite likely). 3) The motor is shot and needs replacing (very likely).

Plugged my Dyson in this morning, switched it on and power came on for not even a second and died. No power what so ever to dyson - checked my house sockets, changed fuse. Still not working - dead as a...

It is either your power cable, cable rewind mechanism or your motor.
Try switching it on, and wiggling the lead near the plug and see if it fires up. If it does, remove the moulded plug and fit a standard plug.
If not, likely suspect is the motor or the cable rewind mechanism. Neither are an amateur job. If you are in the UK, you could send it to Manchester Dyson for either to be fixed. Carriage will cost you about £10 each way. A motor replacement will cost around £65 and a cable rewind mechanism about £45-£50.

Dyson DC 25 Dyson Ball animal. The bottom brush is not rotating. I detached as and reattached as the manual suggested. Help Thank you very much

Two things you can do. 1- Remove the brush as if you were going to change the drive belt for it. Clean the brush as best you can and spray some WD40 on the hard rubber/plastic pieces at both ends of the brush. Rotate the pieces to work the WD40 into the space between the pieces and the brush axle. 2- If you have one available, as long as the brush is off, change the belt.
This should get your unit back in operation. If you find this solution helpful, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you. Thank you. Paul

When i pull out hose it immediately will **** inwards together and I it is hard to move and has litten suction.

Sounds like a clogged hose. Try to roll a marble or small rock through hose. If it doesn't go through, it's clogged. If you've got a shop or canister vacuum, try hooking your hose to the exhaust port of other vacuum. Detach your hose from your vacuum first. Turn on other vacuum, attempting to blow out or dislodge clog. You can also try using an air pressure hose, or getting a long length of PVC pipe, to help clear it. Do not use sharp/pointed objects.
If the marble rolls through, check the flex hose inside the power head, This may be clogged and need to be unplugged. If it can't be unclogged without damaging it, it will need to be replaced.

My dc 05 isnt working and i cant understand why , i have cleaned all filters etc and i also changed the fuse on the plug , which after i didi that it attempted to start but then jus cut out again so i...

Most common cause of this problem is a wire broken inside the flex, usually either just where it leaves the plug (easy to fix) or at the other end (more of a problem). In either case, this is no reason to dump the machine - it can be fixed at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
If you need guidance on what to actually do about this, post a reply here, saying what country you are in please.

My DC05 does not switch on. I have checked and confirmed the fuse is ok and washed & dried the filter

You can sometimes tell from the "feel" of the switch if this is a problem with the switch itself. However, by far the most common cause of the "won't switch on" problem is damage to the flex. Dysons are often let down by the quality of their flex, and it's quite common for the copper wire in the flex to break (compounded by the fact that the plastic tends to become brittle, especially if the flex has not always been fully unwound in use). This usually happens where the flex is subject to the greatest strain and bending - where it leaves the plug and at the other end which (sadly for a DC05) is inside the rewind reel. There may or may not be visible external signs of damage.
If you want to know what's involved in fitting a new flex and reel, go to then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC02 cable replacement". The person who set up that site hasn't done a page for this job on a DC05, but the DC02 is similar. His "DC05 motor replacement" page shows you how to dismantle the 05 and get to the cable reel.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

I have a dyson dc 05 and a wire has come disconnected from the main cable inside the machine how do i get the wheel off to reconnect the cable

In the centre of each wheel there is a different colour plug. This must be removed before the wheel can be pulled off. I used a small screwdriver to prise it out. You will probably damage the plug in removing it but they are easily available online as a replacement. You will then see two screws holding the case together. You need to undo both sides plus the screw on the top.
(If you think you may have a loose connection, then it could be the motor brushes have worn out and need replacing)
