Sony DAV-SC5 not playing 5.1 through the optical input from sky/blu ray

I have the DAV SC5 and have just bought a sony blu-ray player, i have connected the blu ray by optical and set the output settings. But on the DAV all i get is pro logic surround and not 5.1/DTS. Am i doing something wrong i keep reading reviews that the dav can accept 5.1 from a sky+ box b ut it does not show on the display. Can anyone help me ?

Hi,

The DAV supports Dolby Digital® DTS 5.1 audio. Make sure your blueray movie has 5.1 track and is outputting to the DAV.

Also, are you using the HDMI output on your Blue Ray player?

So you are hooked up to your TV with HDMI and to your DAV via optical. May I please know which Blue Ray player you have. Thanks.

    Hi,

Did you make sure that downmix PCM is not enabled on your Blue Ray player on both DTS/Dolby Digital?

Upgrading dvd to blu-ray - how can I use my existing surround sound speakers?

Unfortunately because your existing system does not have the option of connecting an external source, such as another DVD player, the only option you have is to reuse your existing speakers and purchase another amplifier. Trying to patch another DVD into your existing unit would require a bit of technical expertise which would be more trouble than it is worth. The all-in one concept is convenient but very limiting in terms of expansion.

Sound not loud Sony DAV-IS10

I think its the fact that the speakers are pretty tiny, even tho BOSE has proved that size doesnt matter. i will agree i have a descent size home and i have to max it out all the time to watch a movie
just a design flaw IMHO.

Is Sony DAV-S500 optical input compatible with optical output from Pioneer DVD player DV-566K?

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.

How to connect other dvd or HDMI player into dav-sc5 for amblification

If your alternate DVD player has digital audio out you can make this connection via the 'optical digital in' port on the rear of the unit which corresponds to the Video 2 function. I have done this myself because the inbuilt DVD function in the Sony unit is dead (fixed once under warranty, problem recurred about a year later, same issue as other unsolved posts on this board, DVD function hangs, system won't switch off, etc. common problem with this unit, crap product).

Component Video Connection

what you have done is you are sending a component video signal from your system to your tv and the sound i assume comes through the 5.1 surrond speakers. The DVD's you play the sound would naturally come from the 5.1 surround speakers, unless your instruct the dvd player to send the sound to the tv in which case will only be played as stereo. you will need inputs on your dav system to take sound from your tv outputs or digital box by way of red and white phono leads or a digital/optical input if you have them; so as to play the sound from cable tv or sattelite tv through your 5.1 surround speakers.
