can be also the mainboard, I had the same problem with an older model, the dell maonboards easily get cracks, especially if you carry it tin the backpack. Try o bow it a little, then it will work until you carry it the next time in the backpack.

Dell latitude e5500 will not boot even f8

Sounds like your laptop can't find an OS (operating system software) to load from. The OS is on your hard disk drive. Now you have to determine if the OS is corrupt or your hard drive is bad. Here is a link from Dell for your model:
To run a quick diagnostic, hold down the <FN> key next to the space bar while powering on the laptop. If your hard drive is bad you should get a "self test DST failed".

Space bar when used produces 'bn' instead of a space and if pressed long turns the desk top upside down or side ways.

Check the language settings: Start>control panel>clock, language and region>region and language. Click on the keyboard and languages tab and click change keyboards. This will tell you the keyboard settings. If you need to change the settings, click on the add button and choose your preferred keyboard setting.

Hiya Mitch, the enter key is normally on the right hand side of the keyboard, it there's not a button with enter on it, the one you need to look for is long arrow pointing to the left under the backspace button. The backspace button is an arrow pointing the left but smaller than the enter one, there's a little notch at the top of the long arrow hope i was of some help to you, kind regards

Space bar, left-side enter key and backspace do not respond.

Try buying a can of compressed air and cleaning around those areas if you have spilled liquid on them ,that could be the prob as well

My spacebar issticking.

Yup! you can do that.. carefully... i repeat, carefully pry-upward the space bar using a hard plastic card (I.D cards are best). Clean the hinge with a brush. Press down till you hear a click to return the key back to its position.

Space bar on Latitude D-600 Dell is sticking

There may be something under the spacebar key preventing its contact with the base. If you gently pull up the key it will come off and you can check.

It's a bit tricky to put it back on, gently push it back on rocking it from top to bottom.

Failing this, you can buy a new keyboard quite cheaply on the web.
