My car 1991 hatchback (5 door)toyota corolla wont start,i tried a jump start but it wouldnt it was completley dead wen i first got in,when i got the jump start it just turned over nothing more ,i admit that i have a kight that tells me when the door isnt shut right and stays on until u shut it righht, this was left on many times in the month i had got the car, could this have drowned the battery?cos wen i asked someone thay said it should have started with a jumpstart even if that had happened with the door>>>help im confuswed also it didnt seem like things dimmed when i got it to just make a sound ie the hazards in other words im pretty sure its not the altinator as o never had dimming problems prior.thanks
Actually it's probably the alternator. You can jumpstart a car with a dead battery and keep it running because once it's started the alternator generates the power to keep your car running and it recharges your battery. Then your accessories run off your battery.
I would go to autozone and have them do a free check on your alternator and battery but i'd put money on it that it's your alternator.
One question when you played your music in the car did you ever play it loudly? If you heard a whining in the background of your music when your engine was revving up then you had an alternator that was going bad.
