Question about Acer AL1716 17" LCD Monitor

AL 1716 LCD monitor has no power when plugged in.

Hello everyone i have a Acer 17 inch monitor that when plugged shows no power what so ever. The typical green light for power does not even show nor do the switches to turn it on work. I have completely taking apart the monitor to see if i could at least find a bad resistor or capacitor. I would appreciate any advice as to where should i start making judgment if the main 450v capacitor is receiving power tested by a mulitmeter?

As someone suggested the 3 10 volt 1000uF caps are bad. You can indentify them because they're puffed up on the top and therefore blown. Replace them withj a 25 volt cap 470uF or larger and away you go. I did 4 of them in 3 hours. The case snaps apart which is the hardest part. them remove all the screws you can find, unplug the display from the board, remove the rest of the screws holding the power supply board down, and look for the puffy caps. Cahnge them and put everything back together and away you go.

thi is the image u sent
the regulator ic is 3pin transistor typ package that top a heatsink.
    that is a regulator ic.
befor u raplace it can u get a voltage test in a big capacitor how much volts he drain..

It's a switching power supply ! Make sure all 3 fuses are OK then if you see caps are swollen, that means caps are weak, leak or defectiv. Try to change all caps then regulator IC.
Fuses are F101, 2 black fuses near CN101.
I suggest to replace C123 because it's a feedback caps.

Acer monitor only display for about 3 to 4 second

Sounds like a busted syncing circuit, probably due to a condenser. It takes about that time to heat or overcharge, at which point a safety feature will turn off the display.

You just MIGHT get some more life hours out of the monitor by tuning it to a lower resolution, but it will buy you a month even in the best hypothesis.

I'm afraid the monitor is in for a repair/replacement.

1. Unplug the AC power cord to make sure the power is off.
turn the monitor upside down, you need 2 people for this.
2. Pull the 4 hooks on bottom side of the base and hold.
3. Separate the monitor and base.

ACER AL 1716

There are two types of lines.

Lines caused by a bad LCD screen and lines caused by poor sync.

A bad LCD will cause perfectly straight vertical and horizontal lines that don't move at all. This is because the row and column addressing ICs have gone bad, so you will end up with rows or columns of bad pixels.

Poor sync looks more like what you are describing. The picture will flip vertically and horizontally.

Poor or missing sync can be caused by a bad video cable, or a bad IC on the main board.

If the monitor has a removable video cable, borrow another one from a friend to test if the monitor is working. If it works, head to your local computer store and buy a new cable.
If the monitor still doesn't work with a different cable, you may have a bad main board. The only way to repair the monitor will be to replace the board.

If you open the monitor, be sure to check for bad capacitors. They can cause all sorts of strange faults. Look elsewhere on this site for how-tos on inspecting capacitors.

If your video cable is not removable, there's not much you can do. You will need a way to test that each pin on the cable connector on the main board conducts to a corresponding pin on the other end of the cable. You can do this if you have a multimeter, or a continuity tester.

Snowy Raster on display

Hi mcuyg,

Hope this will give you hint in solving this problem. Try configuring monitor settings in OSD mode; contrast; brightness; etc.. other special settings can be accessed using combination of buttons to minimize the raster intensity. On hardware side try resoldering cold soldered points and check the SMPS side.
