Question about HP Scanjet 4850

2 Answers

Horizontal Lines When scan an 8.5 x 11 document on the HP ScanJet 4850, the scanned image always has black horizontal lines of varying thicknesses appearing at the bottom of the document. The top of the document is close to the scanner's hinges. So the problem lies in the area where the scanner bulb reaches its end of travel. Any ideas.

Re: Horizontal Lines

This might be a hardware problem, but it could also be caused by an outdated (or corrupted) driver; you could uninstall the original driver, then download and install the newest version directly from HP here:

If that link is broken, or doesn't work for you, use this one:

Also, I've copied the following information directly from the HP 4850 Scanjet user's manual:

If you have the HP Image Zone software installed, you can use the onscreen Help to solve other problems with the scanner. To gain access to the Help, open HP Solution Center, click Help, and then click HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner Help. The Help system provides information about the HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner hardware as well as information about the HP Image Zone and HP Scanning software itself. Also, see Scan troubleshooting in the general Troubleshooting and support section of the Help.

Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...

HP 5470c scanner leaves lines on the scanned

This is often caused by dirt or dust on the imaging head. This requires taking the unit apart in a CLEAN area and wiping off the head with lens cleaner and a microfiber lens cloth.

Horizontal Banding

From the Microtek KB: Scans that produce lines, fading, and discoloration generally result from a corrupt scanner driver installation or a burned out lamp. To determine if your problem is caused by a burned out lamp, simply open the scanner lid and check the color of the lamp. If the color is a shade of red, pink, or green, then the lamp is burned out. Perform a scanner preview to get a clear view of the lamp. If the lamp is a bright white and the problem still exists, please contact technical support.
