I took my camera to the beach and it had a severe amount of sand in it and stopped working. I cleaned out what I could and turned it on but it said "lens error". I am wondering if there is a spot that needs to be cleaned further into the camera or if it is just toast now. lens error" - then shuts off

The best thing to do is take them into a camera shop for a damage report. If that camera comes with a charger that plugs inbetween and electrical outlet and the camera, see if that will reset.
You can try taking out the batteries and putting them back in to see if that resets it.
