Phone not working

2 handset displays read "out of range" even when plugged into their chargers, one of which is the base.  Displays look normal, but phones don't work.  One non-cordless phone on the same line does work.

Sorry, but it has nothing to do with the wiring in your home. This is a radio problem, not a telephone problem. When a cordless phone says its "out of range" it's telling you it lost contact with your base station, and has nothing to do with dialtone. In your case, its both handsets which helps us logically isolate the problem, which is your base. The chances of both handsets going bad at the same exact time in the exact same way is very low, so with that said, your base station is failing to communicate with either handset, hence it being the culprit to your problems. So here is what you need to do. Power down base station and get your manual. Find the part of the manual that says handset registration or registration. Power up your base and follow the steps in the manual to "re-register" your handsets. If you cannot register them so they see the base, then your base is bad and needs repair or replacing. Good Luck

SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED TO TO THE WIRING INSIDE YOUR HOME. THERE IS NO DIALTONE GETTING TO THE BASE. PLUG ANOTHER PHONE IN WHERE THE BASE IS PLUGGED IN AND SEE IF THAT WORKS IF THERE IS NO DIAL TONE THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WIRING. MANY TIMES WIRING IS IN THE ATTIC WHERE SOME PEOPLE STORE THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AND WHEN THEY PLACE THEM BACK INTO THE ATTIC THEY MESS UP THE PHONE LINE IF IT GETS IN THE WAY.

Phone message reads

If you are not too far away-not "out of range" then try rehoming/pairing the handset with the base unit. You probably need the phones together to do this. Your manual will explain how-it will have been done in the original setup.

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Handset has message Out of Range even though it is fully charged on on the handset.

The handsets are reading out of range because they have lost connection with the base. This happens mostly during peak power demands or power outages, but can also happen when the phone is unplugged for any amount of time. This can also cause, at times, the answering machine to stop picking up calls. To remedy this issue, reset the phone system. Please follow the instructions below:
To reset the phone:
1. Disconnect the power adapter, phone line, and remove all batteries from the base and all handsets. Leave it disconnected for 30 seconds to reset the base.
2. Place the batteries in the handsets first and then plug in the power adapter and phone line. Do not place the batteries back in the base yet.
3. Put the handset in the charge cradle.
4. It may take up to 1 minute for the "Out of Range" to clear from the display.
5. Once the "Out of Range" is cleared from the handset place the back up batteries back into the base.

I had the same problem. What worked for me, after several unsuccessful registration attempts, was to disconnect the phone handset battery for about 1 min and then reconnect the battery. Run the handset registration procedure again. It registered for me on the first attempt after the battery reinstall. Good luck.
