The problem is not the screen but the inverter board inside the laptop, it supplies high voltage to the internal fluorescent (cold cathode) bulbs that back light the display. Lots of these available on ebay and they plug right in, no soldering is necessary. I cant imagine both screens had bad cold cathode lamps. Generic answer to all dark screens on laptops

OK, is there a key on the keyboard that has a little monitor on it? Older laptops had this key that would black out the display to save battery power and when used with a remote monitor, like a VGA or a TV out. It may be the integrated video chip that is on the board, but that would also make the external monitir look bad. May be kinked or broken video cable, could be a number of things but the invertor board would be my first guess, good luck.

Touch screen dose not work on my CF-30

If your Toughbook has an integrated GPS, this may be conflicting with the touchpad or touchscreen driver. You can fix this by running the GPS Registry Patch - SKIPENUM.REG, which is found in the C:\UTIL\GPS\ folder. This file can also be found by following the link below.

If you are using a GPS module that is not integrated, you should contact the manufacturer of the GPS module for a similar patch.

If you are not using a GPS module, or if the above steps do not fix your problem, re-install the touchpad and/or touchscreen drivers.

Where can i find a Motherboard for a CF-52? Are the CF-52 have a base model MB or is everyone different?

You can download the drivers from the following website. Select Driver chipset in the first drop down for motherboard drivers.

Yes, different CF 52 have different motherboards depending upon the processors and video cards in the configuration.

Thanks for using Fixya

I have a CF-29 with a touchscreen, and the screen just went extremely dark. I can just faintly see the desktop. Using the Fn/F1/F2/F3 makes no difference.

Thank you for your query

The problem you are experiencing is a fairly common problem with laptops, it would seem that if plugging the charger back in doesnt make any difference then the screen inverter will need to be replaced

Please plug in the charger to see if this makes any difference and if not you will need to book the toughbook in for replacement of the inverter

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again -

Panasonic CF-51 LCD screen is very dim and fades to black. I replace the LCD screen and have the same behavior. Is this an issue with the Motherboard

Yes that sounds about right now.. but did you replace the Inverter board as well... I mean did you replace everything including all electronics attached too? Or just the LCD, see it may be the driver?
