Re: dvd player

Try using a head cleaner cd/dvd to see if that solves the problem. Failing to read a dvd but being ok with cds is norm a sign of drive startin to die. Dvds are harder for it to read due to smaller track width.

I can burn DVD's but it doesn't have any audio on the DVD or CD

I think maybe some wrong with the output DVD settings.
If you dont know what wrong with it, try this one: More easier on settings and options.

My dell latitude d531 laoptop could not recognise my dvd/cd drive. It is not shown on My computer

It may be possible that the connection got somehow loose.
so, try to remove it and then refit it again.
it is very simple to remove the DVD drive and refit it. (it's just a matter of removing one or two screws.)

you can see the Manual that came with it to learn how to remove and refit it.

Please keep in mind that it may Void your warranty, so read the manual before attempting it.

My CD/DVD drive won't read/play DVDs and it won't write DVDs either. It used to do this fine, but it doesn't anymore. It will still play and write CDs, but not DVDs. I have tried EVERYTHING to...

You probably will need to replace the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) in your laptop. Go to Google and search for "Dell Inspirion 6000 CD/DVD drive" to find a replacement.
To be sure it's the CD/DVD drive that's defective and not your operating system software, you could also try to boot from a boot-able DVD disk.

I have a NEC Lavie L LL550/3 that doesn't read

The CD and DVD reading portions of the drive use different sensors, so it's possible it would stop reading DVDs but still continue to read basic (audio) CDs.

The question is, will the same, working audio CD work while booted up fully?

If it does not, it may be a matter of a driver problem; unfortunately drivers cannot be found online for this model. Check this thread and make a post or comment to try to find someone who may have the drivers you need.

If the driver was the problem, the drive itself would not likely be seen at all. The message idicates that the disc can not be read. It is possible that the optics have failed, but normally there would be an indication of this prior to complete failure. Try cleaning the lens using a coton swab and alcohol. This should resolve the problem.

Update this if the problem continues.

My media player does open and play in my Sattelite M200 laptop

You need to install the codecs,
and dowload from there, use the codec packs (xp codec pack or vista codec pack) I used both on my 2 laptops and they work fine.

Dvd ,cd worn't work

the driver should allready be installed with windows

What type of problem are you having with the drive?

Does the drive read CD's but not DVD's or niether one?

Did the drive work fine and suddenly stop reading just DVD's but still reads CD's most of the time?

Or is this a new drive that hasn't worked at all yet?

for CD use the driver should allready be installed with windows and almost never needs to be installed seperately

for DVD playback in windows XP you will need to install some sort of DVD driver into the system like power dvd or windvd or you can download DVD support for windows media player here :

But I would need answers to some or at least one of the following questions before being able to help any further

1. What type of problem are you having with the drive?
2. Does the drive read CD's but not DVD's or niether one?
3. Did the drive work fine and suddenly stop reading just DVD's but still reads CD's most of the time?
4. Or is this a new drive that hasn't worked at all yet?
5. What operating system are you using?

I hope this info helps (please let me know if it does not)

ACER laptop, CD/DVD not working

Hi there

Thanks for posting your problem on fixya

It means your CD/DVD player is not attached properly. Please restart you laptop and go to bios

To go into Bios -- Press del key as soon as the pc restarts.

You would see a black screen as soon as you del key. Please check on boot priority and check there if you can see your CD/DVD there it means you CD/DVD player installed properly.

Please take you laptop to some hardware shop and if its in warranty period then go to service center

Detects CD but not DVD

Hi Chopadepve,

Please try this method but be more careful during working out on it:

Since your DVD drive reads cd's, but not dvd's It shows that the hardware works fine. Now we need to Edit the Registry to fix this problem.

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters" in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) Reboot PC

Windows should automatically install a clean ROM drive after the reboot otherwise Open the device manager window and click "scan for hardware changes". DVDs just read fine if you have the correct DVD decoders.

If no luck then might be DVD read head wiped out.
