my dryer drum stopped spinning. i have removed the drum from the cabinet, and found both rollers were clogged with what looked like hair. i think this hair came from the rear fabric bearing. the bearing around the back of the drum is in tatters, and doesnt look like it will work properly, should i replace it now while i have it apart, and if so, will i get new adhesive with the new fabric bearing? also by just removing the hair from the rollers, will this possibly solve the drum rotation problem. i also plan on replacing the belt while im at it. thanks for the help. Ok, when you removed the front cover to gain access to the idler pully, did you make sure that the drum didnt slip off one of the two roller wheels in the bottom rear of the dryer. If you get one of those roller wheels jammed and not in the track right, they will jam up. Look down at the bottom, grab the rollers, and pull them forward to be sure they are in the groove of the drum. Also, are you sure you relooped the belt correctly back around the idler pully? The best way to loop the belt is to place the idler pully in the correct position, then drop the belt down in front of it, loop the belt under the idler pully, push it back to tension everything, then take the loop and go over the motor pully (should be pretty tight). See if one of those solutions will help. Also be sure that you are properly getting the drum in the right position over the front seal (front should go on pretty easily, if not, reach your hand in the door, and lift up on the drum to center). Thanks and good luck!!!!

Whirlpool cabrio model # wtw5500xw1. Horrible screeching noise when it goes into spin, then shuts off

Since I don't have the service manual for this model- I'm unsure if this is a direct drive motor to transmission or belt driven through pulleys.

In first scenario motor bearing is shot

Belt driven model, belt is worn or derailed from pulley

3rd reason, clothes could be stuck between spin drum and tub assembly, causing the spin drum to jam.

My gas dryer will not turn the clothes drum

The drive belt that turns the drum has broken off or fell off. Sears does sells these belts in a kit forn including the tensioner pulley. Purchase that. The top and front panel will need to come off to do this repair

Banging noise when the drum is spinning

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
You can get a parts manual from this website:

http://www.applianceaid.com/

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

My washer wont agitate or spin

If this machine is a drum type and NOT A TOP LOADER (There was no mention of the model) then the overload has possibly caused the drive belt to either break or jump off the drum pulley.

IMPORTANT: THERE ARE LIVE SWITCHES AND MAINS SUPPLIES WHEN THE COVER OF THESE MACHINES ARE REMOVED, DO NOT TOUCH OR TAMPER WITH ANY PART, UNLESS THE POWER IS OFF AND THE PLUG REMOVED FROM MAINS SOCKET.

If the belt has slipped off or has broken, it can be replaced by fitting the (new) belt around the motor drive pulley (small end) and refitting around the drum pulley, you can do this by feeding the belt around the drum pulley, by holding the belt in place and feeding onto the pulley (IT IS EASY TO GET YOUR FINGERS NIPPED BETWEEN THE BELT AND LARGE DRUM PULLEY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FIT BELTS BACK - SO BE VERY CAREFUL)

Best of Luck!!

Frigidaire model FWTR445RFS Hear motor, no drumroation, no spi,

I sounds like the belt fell off. You can verify by removing the rear plate off the unit & verifying visuall. If off and not snapped then you can just simply put it back on. Otherwise replace. Hope this helps

Dryer wont spin

If dryer does not spin it is usually a problem with the belt or the motor. Check also door switch.

See also following indications from Repairclinic:

It won't tumble If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:

Belt
Motor
Door switch
Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Kenmore oasis washer

top loaders use the same motor for wash pump and spin to spin the clothes the motor direction is reversed and a solenoid releases the drum brake allowing the drum to rotate this is governed by a set of clutch shoes in the pulley if these are worn then the machine wont spin at full speed but ol on the display indicates overload so check the solenoid is releasing the drum usually heard as a loud clunk on spin start
