Question about Televison & Video
I have a Hitachi model # 57UWX20B, Thats washed out on all channels, with vertical problem, I have replaced Tuner, TA1360N microprocessor, vertical IC, checked all fuses, connections and caps, still washed out, the units PIP work ok, I can play vcr and video games only in PIP mode, none in regular tv mode.
I have a PLILIPS, model #50P8341 that the power light blinks when pushed, you can push any button and the power lights comes on and blinks, there is not high votlage, the unit is dead.
You could probably do the replacement by yourself.
First, go to the owners manual and make sure you have gone through the convergence set up. See page 45 of the manual. When pushing the magic focus button be sure that the set does inaugurate the convergence routine.
Your model has hundreds of parts listed at the www.partstore.com site; I did not search for the STKs but what you can do is find the part number on the case of the convergence ICs and search for it. They cost around $30 to $50 each and there are two of them of the same part number (usually). They must be mounted with great care.
Why would this happen again? Could be a poor design, could be poor mounting of the stks and heat transfer was not adequate, could be out of spec parts, etc.
Expect to take a couple of hours at least to do the replacements.
CAVEAT: We cannot be sure it is defective STKs, so do all the checking and testing you can to pursuade you that they are the real culprit - again.
If you go to http://www.freelists.org/archives/techassist/02-2005/msg00303.html and do a word search on "stk" you will find many interesting comments by others about replacing them and various other convergence comments.
Also, if you go to http://www.schematicsforfree.com/archive/?path=Video%2FProducts and look down the Hitachi list you will see a convergence file that may be helpful in doing the convergence...... It is for an older set, but I believe the procedure is about the same for your model. (This is in the manual setting area, not the Magic Focus automatic procedure).
If anything herein is confusing, please ask more questions. Good Luck with the repair.
