Question about Vivitar ViviCam 5386 Digital Camera

2 Answers

NO Power My Camera won't power on. It used to work just fine. It still looks brand new. I have tried new batteries & using DC plug with no use. Is there a reset button that I don't know about? I am afraid to take it in for repair because the charges will most likely will not make sense for me to keep this one. Any real suggestions?

Olympus Camedia E10 won't power on with AA NI-MH batteries but works fine with AA ALKALINE, what can I do?

Always charge batteries before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Always charge sets of batteries (2 or 4) together.

Make sure your rechargeable batteries are all good. One defect in a set is killing for the whole set
Don't use barrettes from different sets or brands together.
I had one brand good NiMH batteries and a very expensive charger from the same brand. The charger destroyed all my rechargeable (more than 60 now). When I first discovered the batteries were dropping out, I stopped using the charger, but it did not prevent all batteries to die in the following months. Every time on dropped out I had to change the set. I tried using up the others by grouping the ones with the same Ri, but not longer then a few months and I had a box full to trow away.
Never use a quick charger, capable of charging them within an hour or faster. Us a charger that indicates the Ri is still low enough, so you can see what batteries are bad.
Check you are using a charger for NiMH batteries.
I would try another set (new) because buying Alkaline is also not cheap.
I used 2700 mAh and later 2600 mAh rechargeable, all dead now. since a few weeks I'm now using 2300 mHh from another brand, costing 1/5 of the "best" I had before, and they are doing great. I won't charge them with the quick charger.

Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in electronic devices.
These batteries are only to be used in flash lights.

My camera won't work I turn it on but it's telling me the batteries are dead but there brand new batteries then it shuts off!! What is wrong with it I got it for Christmas last year but up until like

is there a dc power adapter plug on it or use USB cord ito the PC.This way should able to check all settings & power saver timers. Not saying it is the reason but a friend had issues as camera drained batteries.A short may be the cause in the battery compartment or the sensor reading the battery power levels. My guess is manufacture flaw. But only solution I can think of other than a repair is leave batteries out.I had a Fuji Camera & will never own another.Have you tried YouTube search on solution? Good luck

Camera still dead with a new charged battery. Is it possible to overcharge a battery so it won't work?

If you have another battery definitely give it a try, most likely it won't work either. The problem is probably the fuse located on the DC/DC board that has 'blown' causing there to be no power. Replace the board and the camera should work fine. Canon will probably charge $175 or so for the repair.

Hope this helps.

My Canon power shot S2 IS does not detect the batteries

There is a battery charge level sensor in the DC/DC internal converter board.

It seems that just started to fail such board.

You can try with other brand or type of AA batteries.

If still you have the same problem, you will need to have replaced the DC/DC converter board on your camera. This means a Camera repair shop service on it.

Camera will power-up only when connected to DC

This from Sony website:

To ensure the proper operation of the battery, please do as follows after charging the battery.
(1) When charging by connecting the AC adaptor directly to the camera Pleasedisconnect DC IN from the camera after charging is completed. Also, itis recommended to remove the battery from the camera when charging iscompleted as the battery is discharged slightly even if the camera isturned off.
(2) When charging with the supplied USB cradle Ifthe camera is installed in the USB cradle, please leave the power cordconnected to the outlet (when using the power strip, please leave itsswitch to on).If you want to unplug the power cord (or switch off thepower strip) after the battery has been charged using the USB cradle, please remove the camera from the USB cradle. Also, it is recommendedto remove the battery from the camera when charging is completed as thebattery is discharged slightly even if the camera is turned off.
NOTE: When you charge the battery by connecting the AC adaptor directly tothe camera or using the USB cradle, do not leave it with the power corddisconnected from the outlet.

Should it not work, continue with the manual reset procedure below:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.
  3. Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.
  4. Reinsert the battery.
  5. Turn on the camera.
NOTE: If the issue is not resolved by performing a reset procedure, service may be required .

Low battery warning

What type of batteries did you buy?

For digital cameras, you want to use batteries with high milliamp hour (mah) rating: "2500 mah" if they are rechargeable.

If you bought regular batteries, you want to use good quality. Look for the "e2" or "better for digital equipment" type.

Does the camera have a DC power plug option? Try taking pictures with it plugged in if it does. If it still malfunctions with power right from the wall, then you bought a bad camera.
