Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Powercolor motherboard My 4-1/2 y.o. computer failed to boot after a 10 day shutdown. The hard drive ran continuously and the indicator light on the CD-ROM stayed on. Nothing else happened. The local computer guru checked it and said the power supply was ok but the motherboard is gone. He said no replacement board is available because of the operating system - ME - and the ZIP drive. Something about no drivers available anymore. The processor is an Intel 2.4GHz, Pentium 4 needing a 875/865PE board. I bought the system from CyberPower, Inc. They say they have no compatible board available. Am I hosed? I really don't want to buy a new system, particularly if XP or Vista is involved. What I had worked for me and I fell off the technology train a long time ago

Check on Ebay for a board, they have both new and used boards that will take that chip. Do a search for pentium 4 motherboard. As far as drivers being unavailable, your zip drive has native support in windows xp. It will recognize it and install drivers automatically. If you have a copy of windows ME then you can buy a bare bones system with no operating system and load it up yourself. You could probably even connect your existing hard drive and not lose any information. You would just need to due a repair with your Win ME disk. Hope this helps.
