First time using web site sorry about that. No power to bake element, broil element is fine. The only thing I can trace it back to is the electrical board. I'm asuming that shorted out when the element went bad. Thats the only thing left and it cost $150.00 to replace. What do you think?

    Thanks for your time Jon

It would be better to check your service manual if you want to do it yourself. Usually bake element is unseen for easy oven cleaning (newer ones specially) Getting to these hidden bake elements vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and could be as simple as going in from the rear, just lifting an oven bottom panel covering it or in some cases, as much as partially lifting the cooktop and removing the right or left hand side panel to gain access to it! It might be the wiring.

If you are not getting power it can be several things from a burnt terminal to a bad relay in the ctrl board check the pwr first

ok the bake and the broil are controlled by the clock board You will need to have the back off and set it to bake then pwr up and set to bake where the element sticks thru the back test for voltage there

on the board there is a set of relays (Black boxes) you can tap on them with the back of a screw driver and see if the y close to turn on the element?? either way the board will have to eventually be replaced as the relay will get stuck again down the road it may work for awhile try it and see

You may have a serious electrical problem. Or you may need a new element.

Please provide more info as to the source/location of the smoke.

Wife put the oven on clean cycle last night. This morning the heating element will not turn off, a one inch section glows orange. Turned oven off, put it back on clean, broil and off again, no change.

You probably just need a new bake element. Many ranges supply 120 volts to one side of the bake element at all times, switching the other side of the 240 voltage to it (and completing a circuit) when it needs to heat. If the element shorts to ground, the 120 volts can heat though a section of the element to the ground. OK, so much for the technical stuff. Turn power off to range. Replace bake element. Re-connect power. If it works, great. If it heat without turning oven "on" now, that would indicate that the electrical contacts in the bake relay on the control board have welded themselves together, necessitating replacing the control board. Let's hope you are not unlucky enough to have had that happen. (sometimes that happens as the result of an element failure)

There are 2 likely causes. It is more likely that the element is open circuited and needs replacing. The hotplate controller could also be faulty. The circuit needs to be tested to determine the faulty part.

Maybe bake element is bad or bake relay on board is bad.

My oven won't work on bake but everything else is operational

Most likely have a bad heating element. Check for continuity in the element. Make sure to trip the breaker or unplug the unit before removing the element. 120 volts still run through the element even though it is not turned on. Takes 240 volts to make it glow red.
