How do I set the camera to delay taking a picture, so I can get in front of the camera?

    I have read the manual and the delay function isn't listed, so you're probably right, this camera just doesn't have the facility.

Canon A450 has this facility..
This facility u r saying is DRIVE MODE. This is available in all the modes(including VIDEO mode). Press FUNCTION SET-----> Drive MODE (square symbol ( Use Down arrows to go down) Use RIGHT arrow to chose any of the options...
Options provided
1. 10secs.
2. 2 secs
3. CUSTOM(In which you can select your own timing and number of shots...)
Remember to press FUNCTION to set the DRIVE MODE....

After you selected.... You have to Press as you click regularly to take photo and go in front of it....(there will bea beep which indicates that It is going to shoot...)

How do I take a remote photo will the canon a450

One option may be to use CHDK firmware and a USB cable. Basically, you put the alternative firmware on the memory card and start the camera up with that, and it takes a picture when it senses a voltage on the USB port. There's more info about CHDK for the a450 here:

Hi ... i have canon powershot a70... where do i find the picture delay.. ...the delay in taking a picture...

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use up/down to select Drive Mode (the rectangle, third item from the top). Use left/right to select the desired delay and press FUNC/SET.

Horizontal lines on the pictures

if they are lines like these Canon Repairs the products also out of warranty. It is a sensor problem where some wiring come off with temperature shifts.

Sound like your camera is set to night photography.
Try resetting it to Auto or sports when shooting in daylight.

Wondering if you could take a delayed picture with a canon powershot A 540, would like to set it so I can get the whole family in the picture

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use up/down to select Drive Mode (the rectangle, third item from the top). Use left/right to select the desired delay and press FUNC/SET. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button as usual.
